Considering a homemade build

So I started exploring a 3D model based on a trek session 88 and started moving the seat tube and extending the top tube to make it more rideable. I'll probably base the frame on these basic measurements. Whether it will be composite or aluminium, I'll have to look at that later on.... for now I'm going to look at rider position and my riding preferences

what about adjustable geometry?

remember when you explained to me how the azonic works.

the head angle is determined by the size of the rear shock.

The trade off between rear travel and head angle.

they don't make bikes like that anymore

Reynolds 853 steel! It's so light, strong, and playful.

SimpleDom, do you know where I can source that 853 steel? Wouldn't mind giving it a try

I wish I knew.... I'm purely a user... I don't have the talent to create!

That's a good idea, and its determined by the shock mount points. Soooooo, i like this one Popcorn_Skollie, somewhat tune-able....

Did you model all components from scratch, or did you find downloadable ones? Its looking good!

BTW, I think that Aluminium and Carbon are overdone already, so you may want to look at Steel. The Nova site (link earlier) has some Columbus steel which would also work well. I put together a shopping basket on the site without being too specific about the brand of steel and it came in at under $200  which I thought was not too bad.

I have also been toying with the idea of using 3D printing to investment cast some of my components. I need to research that some more but if I find a practical affordable route I'll let you know.

I downloaded some parts and modeled some. I just got in some parts for my 3D delta printer so I might use it to grow some sections and use carbon. I want the process to be affordable too, I dont have big R&D budget to test different materials, so depending on the cost of setting up of different building processes.....either welding or composite.... we'll see after our research starts giving more direction

I wonder what it will cost to bring those metal sections over to SA

An example of the concept development and of the 3D printer video above

maybe a clueless question. - you use the 3d printer to make a female mould that you then do your carbon magic on?
