Epic MTB riding skills - not a lot going round it seems :-)

Just a bit of background, met the guy who crashed BADLY on the prologue, multiple spinal fractures.

He was riding his 3rd EPIC so he should know his way around with a bike, that's the crazy part, just highlights the fact that anything can happen!

it's called pumping the terrain. Much like how you get the momentum going on a swing - you contract on the way down (loading the swing) and then release on the way up. 

 

On a bike, when you're pumping the terrain you suck the bike up (relax the knees) on a small incline and then push back down when you go down the other side. Keeps the momentum going nicely, and if you do it properly you increase your speed quite nicely and relatively effortlessly.
