According to Volunteer Wildfire Services, Jonkershoek is off-limits till further notice. Does anyone have more info on the duration. They say "further notice" but would appreciate more detail. Thanks

No timeline yet, but expect anything from 6 months onwards. Those roots go on burning for ages and it would be irresponsible to open it up any time sooner. Same as tokai.

Via the Wannabees FB page - Jonkershoek open again from today. I just spoke to Hans at the gate and we may ride all areas where there are no tall trees (risk of trees falling). So we are mostly restricted to the bottom 10km loop and the right hand side. Hans is confident that after the first rain the soil will stabilize and tree falling risk will be reduced

Well that's pretty good news. How fun is the bottom 10km loop? worth the drive from southern suburbs?

Its not great, better than the road for sure. Usually its very very pretty at least. Have not had the heart to go look at the devestation yet, apparently its quite bad. Will miss my favourite trails.

It is isn't it

IF true, I Still don't know how they can allow that given that the entire fire hut trail was covered in trees, and is now most likely littered with sinkholes Thanks to the burning Roots.

We know how that is, eh Mark. And tokai is still like that...

Not denying the info, but it's a bit of a casual way to convey such crucial news

Yeah more odd than interesting, very quick if true (which I doubt)
