Hi all

I'm relatively new to mtb (8 months) but enjoying it a lot, I'm looking to make the move to a 29er full sus. Thus I am looking to sell my 26er but I need some advise regarding the value of my bike for resale. I bought it standard but upgraded some components. Specs as follows:

2014 Axis A80 path/ trail mtb

Frame - Alloy double butt

Handle bars - Kore 700mm

Stem - Ritchey comp (upgraded)

Fork - Rockshox XC28 + remote lockout (upgraded)

Shifters - Shimano rapid-fire (upgraded)

Breaks - Shimano hydraulic 355 (upgraded)

Seat & post - Kore

wheels - Axis double wall alloy

Tyres - CST Copperhead

Please help

omw...not much at all...upgrades was more than that

Let's look at it this way, the key components of this bike is the reason for my price evaluation. Forks = not good, wheels = not good, frame = not good. What is the specs on the groupset?

As for the upgraded components, keep them and sell the bike with it's original components.

Granted the fork is entry level but still  rockshox & I paid nearly 2k for it a month ago...also why is the frame no good, what makes it no good...for interest sake

I can buy that Rockshox new for R1300. It's a coil fork and entry level at best. Being that it's not new anymore, you will be lucky to sell it for R600.

Frame is a mass produced entry level alloy frame that's heavy and know real thought put into the geometry. They can also be called a Makro special, so no real value.

Rather keep it as a spare, having one bike can be a problem when the other one is in for repairs or (as I have had 2x) when you have to claim on a new frame (mine was relatively quick but it was still a week or so without my DS each time).

First think what price you would be happy to go with. Then decide if it is worth keeping the bike for that amount.

I sold my old hardtail this weekend. The bike has brought many happy memories and I think it was a very nice bike to start with. It still had VBrakes and even though the frame can take disk brakes, the wheels can not. The frame is really nice though, a silver Merida Matts. The old suntour fork is in a bad condition and needs to be replaced. However the stem, wheels and tyres are quite good and was replaced as part of the sale. I got R2500 for this bike after throwing in extra tyres, hanger replacement and tyre liners. I think this was a fair price, however giving "free" stuff with the bike helped a lot with the sale.

Using this sale as a guide, personally I think R3k is definitely reachable. Maybe the frame isnt the best but unless it really weighs a ton then it will still be seen as good by the majority of buyers in this bracket. Same goes for the wheels and you actually have disk brakes which counts a lot.

The other option. If you still have your old components then you can always swap them back and sell the bike for a real bargain. Then sell your remaining components separately. The bars, stem, brakes and shifters, seat and post all sounds quite good and should fetch a fair price. The fork, if in a good condition, is also better than many forks you would get on an entry level bike, I would not sell the fork separately though.

I don't think I'll be happy with any price I'll get as I spent round 6k on this bike (purchase included)...so I'll probably end up passing it onto my wife for some more memories...I had amazing rides with it...
