Rear tyre always flat!!

Just started trail biking and just got back from my 2nd visit to Giba.

I noticed both times that my rear tyre loses a lot of pressure and I end up doing wheelies up short hills sometimes.

When I pump the tyre up it stays full. When it happened last week I changed the tube thinking it may have been a puncture.

Any advice on what I should be looking for.

PS. I am pretty heavy , 105kg.

Check the tyre for something logged there. It could be when you pump it up it stays full but when you cycle whatever is logged there pierces the tube. If you having difficulty finding anything in the tyre mark the tube where the puncture is and place it alongside the tyre. This will give you the area on the tyre to concentrate on.

If no obvious puncture is visable, remove the wheel from the bike, pump tyre and hold a portion under water in a container of some sort. Look for bubbles. Rotate wheel and repeat, till you can see where the air comes out.

I removed the tyre . took out the tube and held it in the bathtub. Found a tiny little hole. Patched it and then had a good feel of the inside of the tyre. Found a small sharp triangular piece of metal poking through in the area of where the punture was found! Managed to pull it out from the outer side. I think I had it in the tyre since last week.

Thanks guys. Tyre now inflated and staying inflated

One more question , I'm going to buy some sealant this week , any specific brand I should use?

Thanks again.

If running tubes rather buy them prefilled with sealant. Available in Spez and Giant and other brands.

Less hassle than putting sealant into tubes.

Thanks JXV , will probably get some today after work.

Consider tyre liners. They kept me puncture free for the last 8 years. I tried sealant in my tubes and I hated it. The stuff kept blocking up the valve and made topping up the air a real bitch.

I've never tried tubeless, despite its apparent benefits

tubeless allows you to run at lower pressure for better footprint to increase grip. However when you get a puncture and the sealant dont seal, then you will need special patches to fix or plugs like a car tyre.

So if you wanna run tubes then sealant or tyre liners

Any specific brand of tyre liners? Seems like a reasonable option coz I'd hate to have the valves clog up while I'm on the trail. Also , if I do go tubeless in the future will I have to change my rims? I have Alex TD25 double wall on my silverback stride 10 (2012 model).
