When I used to run alot my asics gt2000 gave me 1200km on a pair. I weight 80kg back then. Now I dont run that much anymore. I buy my shoes from Jordans in Parow. I just run in Asics. Got my last pair for R699.

I too replace when there is a sale (must say awesome sale you got), however i have heard that it's better to have more than one pair and to rotate often. I have started using my old pair for during the week and my new pair for weekends and races, and must say it makes a bit of a difference...

Hmmm... back to the origin of the thread. My 1080's are up to almost 600k's now. But both started tearing on the upper? Already?!

Maybe time to start using this pair as light/mixed (with tar) trail shoes and get some new road shoes broken in? I don't see this lasting 1000k's. Question is - do I stay with this, seeing that both me and Rabubi had it wear down rather quickly? Or with what can I replace it - seeing that I actually really like the shoe!

Maybe time to visit Runner's Rest... *sigh*

I spoke to my father in law last night, and he also switched to New balance 1080. 600km's and the shoes are kaput.

Yup, mine also started to tear on the upper.

I will probably stick with them, I tried to switch to brooks, but that was a disaster

I'v got easy over 1000km on my Asics GT-2150's but they need replacement now- bit holes in the top and rubber is nearly through on the bottom.

Was going to go back to NB as I found them more comfortable, but having my doubts now. I found that the NB never lasted on the inside- Had huge pieces of plaster on the heels to stop them from wearing through. Haven't had the same on the Asics.

Interesting that most of the discussion is around Asics and NB- I found that they the only two that are wide enough for my duck feet- anybody else found a wider brand?

Completely Depends on the Shoe and the Type of Running you doing...

I only Run in Asics... so if I'm looking for Long Slow Running I can get 800-1000km Out of the Nimbus

However for quicker Running (even Comrades/Oceans distances) I use the DS Trainers 20NC or the Skyspeed 3. Which for both the above I'm lucky to get 400-450kms out of them until they are shot. (Shoes looks new, Cushioning is flat).

Spoke to the Asics Guys at the 2Oceans expo, and they confirmed that out of the Racing/Lightweight shoes (ie Ds Trainer/Racer, Hyperspeed, Skyspeed etc) 400-500kms is the norm.

Expensive Business... I've just started my 4th pair of shoes this year  (hopefully the ones I will run Comrades in)

I hate to ask, but what is your definition of long slow running if comrades isn't?

Any idea where to get Salomons Speedcross at a good price?

The standard price is about R1900 at most outlets in SA. On special I've seen it go for R1400. It would be nice to not have to pay the full price...

I found my Gel Nimbus 13's gave way after around 650km's (took a break from running for a bit)

Just bought the 17's (R2100) and they've gone for around 250km so far and no issues. I've been told to expect 800-1000km from a pair of good running shoes. I'm thinking more like 600-700km as I weight 90kg.

Can't remember the exact price, but I got mine at Somerset Sport (whom you should know if you're in the Bos) substantially cheaper than the normal store prices. Don't know (and couldn't care) whether it was outgoing colour schemes for previous year or not - or whether that is their going rate.

By sheer coincidence saw their price on the Sense Pro also being MUCH lower than normal pricing...

So not sure what the current price is there, should mine have been an end-of-season (they did mention new shoes were expected shortly and had very little stock) price, but worth popping in.

RABUBI, which injury issues did you get with the Brooks?

By coincidence took them as an alternative (Ghost 7) and starting to suspect them for some Achilles niggles... BUT those laces are short and I haven't rerouted them yet (will tonight) to the way I usually do, which keeps the heel more secure. Suspect that may be a part of the problem. 130+ k's in on this pair, I don't think it's "settling" issues.

Also, from day one I told my buddy I don't think I'll ever use them as "race" shoes, despite using them ONLY on the road (I suspect that was what killed my 1080's - the trail running!). They're just that bit softer than the NB and it really tires my legs.

My feet packed up at oceans around the 43km mark. could not even walk properly at that stage

Giggles nervously... apparently shoes are a small part of my niggle. Mainly because both my shoes (trail and road) now have more drop. It seems "mentally" that made a difference!

Went for a quick assessment just now (actually more a chat around my niggle) and it was found... don't laugh!... that I actually never ground my heel now. Weird, since it should be easier with the bigger drop. And my NB's definitely had wear on the heel.

It may even be (I think I mentioned it here somewhere) that the Brooks wiggle/move a bit due to the cushioning and I wanted to "get away" from that feeling. And now simply got around it by not touching my heel down. Plus also maybe pushing too hard when doing hills.

Interesting how the mind and body works.
