I think the '16 anthem 1 has the Factory Fox bits though, don't they? That could account for the majority of the difference...

Looks like they have gone with Fox Performance series, still an upgrade.

heard via the grape vine that a full XT Anthem will is going to be 38k.

a few years ago you could get a Spesh epic  for not more than that and then it was KAAAK expensive.

 

now you get a very average bike like a giant..no offence meant to giant riders.

Cos it's got hardly anything to do with government policy, cos it's still attractive for investments. It's the bloody Greek crisis and our mining sector which is shafting us.

I suppose you could, but I reckon a home job would look a bit capital K for ***.

The finish is also a matte black, so no, I doubt whether you could get it to look the same.

 

Um, was a joke ... I do like the matte black more than gloss in most things also.

Mining sector can't compete with lost cost Chinese labour.

Mines also need electricity which is now amongst the highest unit cost in the world.

 

back to bikes.

 

Giant is more expensive but relative to other brands its the best value and dare I say it, best performing bikes out there.

 

A Santa Cruz at twice the price does not give you twice the satisfaction, is twice the insurance cost and more likely to get nicked.

 

Even at current RRP the Giant bikes are unbeatable

I saw the 2016 bikes at Giant Durbanville and they fixed the top tube on the aluminium bike with a sloped tube and a wider weld where it joins the seatpost,finally. They are also now standard with a through axel at the back.

Through axle upgrade is interesting. Drivetrain's wear so you can buy a cheaper bike and upgrade as things wear/brake. BUT upgrades like thru axle and performance suspension is a worthy upgrade to price increase worthiness scenario. In my books at least.

 

Looking at the new bikes, new clothing may also be needed. black kit with a colourful bike is s no-no. ;-)

The Anthem rear triangle is a ridged triangulated cage with the seat stays, chain stays and a circumferential stiffener welded between them. The cage is then hung off the Maestro suspension. I doubt that the through axle adds much additional structural rigidity. This is probably why Giant have stuck with QR axles on the rear up to now.

 

I can understand why that they would change for marketing and logistics reasons, but I don't think that there would be any benefit in upgrading a 2014 or 2015 Anthem for the 2016 just for the sake of a rear through axle.
