BB getting stiff

Hi guys

Hope all is doing well?

I recently put in a new BB in my hardtail and after three rides the BB is getting stiff. The reason i'm saying this is that when i spin the crank, the cranks only spins around a couple of times compared to when it was new. Is this only because of dirt entering the BB? Should I be worried? And what can I do to keep it clean? I tried to put some chain lube in there, would that help?

Kind regards

Chain lube is for chains and not bearings really.

Have you removed the crank to check the bearings? feel if it is the BB bearings thats stiff.

usually the BB is pretty well sealed and nothing should be getting in or out. except if you use a high pressure washer on it or compressed air... forcing dirt or other stuff in there.

check the bearings directly not by spinning the crank alone - remove the crank and inspect the BB properly. it could also be tension on the bb may be too tight? mashing the bearings?

If it is a Shimano crank be carefull not to over tighten the crank bolt, it should just be finger tight, then you tighten the pinch bolts. If you over tighten you put too much side load on the bearings.

There's your problem, chain-lube will get dried up and get sticky after some time & that will made the ball bearings within the BB & the crank-axle sticky as hell...

by now the only option is to re-service the BB & also cleans the crank-axle.
