Don,t know the difference .I will go for the 120mm RS SID XX again

you have this fitted on an Anthem?

how does it affect front height and handling? with steep short steep climbs I sometimes struggle to keep the front wheel down so am worried about this if going to a 120mm.

On an anthem your weight is already forward ,so it might make climbing a bit more difficult ,but it will help with the descents .Sit more forward on the saddle with steep climb

If you're struggling to keep the front down on the climbs, it's your technique that needs work...

The 120mm on an Anthem works brilliantly. Just look at the Anthem SX and the praise it's received. Exactly the same bike, just wth a 120mm fork at the front.

i bought a SID World cup with a RCT3 damper, after sending it back to the rockshox agents they replaced the damper with a RLT one, when i asked them where my RCT3 was they said do i really want that piece of cxxp, so i suspect they have lots of issues with the RCT3 dampers.

reeeeeaally?

very interesting.

and how are you enjoying your RLT modified fork?

How much do you know about suspension setup?

XX is on/off vs 3 position lockout and a low speed compression dial.

If you know what that last bit means, get the RCT3. Otherwise XX.

Appreciate the feedback so far!!

Anybody else out there have opinions to share on either of the forks?

I'm looking for first hand experiences, positives, negatives, things to look out for, things that go wrong, ease of service etc.

I'm coming off a Fox Float CTD Evolution that is starting to creak where the stanchions are pressed into the crown after about 2000km and a few days over 1 year so unfortunately out of warranty.

The replacement assembly (steerer, stanchions and crown) costs can run up to R3.5k, I am told, so would rather replace than fix. Apparently this is a common problem on the fork for buffalo class riders (I am 98kg) and if you make it work hard.

The fork is also eye watering expensive to service.

That's the kind of wisdom I am asking from Hubbers with regards to the two RS forks... if, of course, you are willing to share.

I have the XX. Pretty smooth fork. Had an issue the other day where my X-Loc was leaking oil and caused my fork to be in locked out mode for some time. Bought 2 new O-Rings, made my own bleed kit and is back to normal again. O-ring and bleed kit cost me less than R30. Must say it is quite annoying when you are locked out all the time but luckily it was an easy fix.

I have a Sid RLT, REBA RLT and a Fox Float in my collection.

I would suggest you consider the Reba. Same internals as the Sid, but beefier and has less flex. Albeit at a slight weight disadvantage, but I'll gladly ride a slightly heavier fork if it means less flex.

I would also suggest considering a 120mm travel fork. I took out the 20mm travel spacer out of my Reba to make it 120, and it is an absolute joy on my bmc fourstroke. I do need to shift weight forward on steep climbs, but by the second ride you are used to it. And the extra plushness on the downhill and bumpy flats is amazing.

If I were you, I'd go for a Reba that can be adjusted between 100 and 120mm (I think all the Reba's are like this) and if you don't like the longer travel, reinsert the travel spacer when you service the fork.

Oh, for context, my Reba is on my race/do everything bike, the Sid went to my wife, she doesn't know about flex, and likes the low weight, and my Fox is on my singlespeed.

Remember, after warranty expires you can service the fork at lbs or do it yourself. Rockshox is lank easy to do yourself, and the suspension oil is readily available at moto shops.

Reba set to 120,as Phillip said. It'll be so much better for you than a Sid. At our weight, flex is the devil and the Reba I'd stronger than the sid

Really good feedback thanks guys.

Can you get either 100mm or 120mm Reba and lengthen or shorten travel?

I am worried that I get a 120mm and don't like it - at least I can then change back to 100mm

Question is: do I get a 120mm or 100mm or does it not matter i.e. can both go shorter and/or longer?

PhilipV - it sounds like you got a 100mm and converted to 120mm (?)

Is threshold adjustment really that good a feature on the RLT?

I'm looking to buy online for delivery in Paris when I am there end of July to catch the finish of some or other road race  ;) , and haven't found a Reba RLT online for delivery in France. Admittedly I haven't searched that long yet, but were just wondering about RLT vs RL?

On the newer ones, not so sure. Best to ask Droo.

I know you could do it on the old RLT though. Just removing a spacer and bam, there ya go.

Solo air needs a new air spring shaft to change travel. On the old dual air forks you could add or remove spacers or just play around with negative spring pressure to adjust travel.

As for the extra adjustments on the RLT and RCT3, the LSC adjust on the RCT3 is more useful than the gate control, but gets more important the more travel you've got. On a 100mm fork it's not going to make a massive difference, but on a 120 it'll start to become useful.
