Developing Electronic Shifting: What functionality/preferences do you have?

Hi Hubbers!

I am playing around with an idea where I incorporate electronic shifting for a road or mountain bike using an Arduino and a couple of servos.

I would like to know, what do you want in an electronic groupset? These could be related to the shifting capabilities or anything else on the bike (such as using data from a GPS to calculate something or using IR sensors ... anything!)

examples related to the gear shifting could be:

  • auto trim of front derailleur (already on the Di2 systems) relative to rear derailleur position
  • skip gears when holding the shift button in for a certain period of time
  • automated gear selection

Please just post any idea that pops into your mind!!

Thanks!

A concealed lock switch or mode that gets activated for when you Park your bike to get a coffee or someone wants to take the bike......It should continuously push the gears out of sink or get the chain to derail.....You need to make sure the contact point or mode of activation is in a protected location.

Definitely a power or cadence based auto-shift (or a combination of both)
