I am running 3 x 8.

Nothing wrong with that but, given that my wife and 2 daughters ride geared bikes I am looking for all the simplicity I can get to get the maintenance burden reduced! Well, that's my story and I'm sticking with it  :whistling:

I rode a trail the other day that I was very thankful for my 22 up front.... (Still running 3x9    ) I built a 1x9 for my son (32 up front with a 36 at the back) Going to be changing it to a 2x9 soon (Poor kid...)

Up to you at the end of the day.

Personally not for me.

2x11 might be a good but yea here in KZN there is some real steep sections and you will have to have some monster legs to push 1x up there, I like to have the option of more.

I normally ride a 3x? Momsen rental at Rosemary Hill which is similar to what I rode in the 90's. More maintenance and more shifting but it works.

Then tested a Spez Camber running 2x10 and really saw the appeal, lots less shifting. The 1x is definitely a step too far for me though.

However at 95KG hills are not by strong point

1X11 is for healthy, young, supple and light riders.

Orthopaedic surgeons love everyone else
