We all know that south africa is one of the most violent countries in the world which is not in a war. This cannot be more clear than listening to to the news on any given day for a couple of minutes, revealing rapes, murderers, hijacking, suicides etc bla bla bla .. . .

 

 

 

Those of us who enjoy the out doors whether it be hiking MTB or road riding we choose to take a risk when doing so. This risk can be minimized by going in a group or by arming your self to the teeth. I personally prefer to ride in a group and be as cautions as i can with out being paranoid.

 

 

 

I have contacted the police many times regarding Squatters in the JHB Spruit defecating around the trails getting mixed in with the mud on a rainy day that makes it onto you eventually. Not to mention littering, lighting fires and robbing us. The police have done nothing that i can notice.

 

 

 

The point i am trying to make is when you don't have a bunch of people to ride with and you have to go for a ride simply because it is your god given right to will you take the risk and go for a ride by your self ? I have a bottle of pepper spray i take with me sometimes.

Difficult questions, especially after the motorist that popped the twelve year old that stole from him.  THE police reaction of "we don't condone that type of behaviour" was lame, especially when mixed with "people should not take the law into their own hands".  WHen if the police don't take the law into thier hands, as they are paid to do, then someone is going to do their job for them.

 

But back to the question, A, B, C, D are all hypothetical, as no self respecting South African will actually believe that any of those woul;d leave you living to see next week.

 

G, and H entail to much work and will leave blood all over your clothes.  not good.

 

So by elimination E or F will be the solution.  But please remember pepper spray, and all things in moderation.  If the guy eventually can remember enough to complain at the police, just ensure that you can plea self defence, provocation or denial.

Get him on the ground first of all, and make sure there aren't any skinnies around.  Then take the front cog and place on face and push down till you see blood.

Pepperspray can backfire on you if the wind is against you.
