Does anyone use PVM products? Octane or Octane Xtra?

That's my poison!! as well as energade...

But I'm also going to move over to Knersis AJ Muti....purely for costs

Why do cyclists so easily buy into this "It's expensive' date=' therefore it must be good" cr@p. All your energy drinks out there contain varying amounts of the salt, maltodextrin, fructose and or glucose. All available for around R 40.00 per KG (which goes a long way). A awesome recipe is found here: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=40669&KW=Asker

This also happens to be the basis of Knersis AJ mix. I know a number of riders (including race snakes) who have switched from well know branded products to the AJ mix and swear by it.

If you want to customise the mixture with protein / peptides (very bitter) / potasium / magnesium etc it is easily and cheaply done.

The ingrediants are available in small quantities in both the Western Cape (from Knersis) and Gauteng from me.

The AJ muti formula makes a couple of litres. Say i only use 1 bottle on my training ride i will obviously have a bit left. How long can i keep this mixture in the fridge before tossing it?

I've kept some pre-mixed AJ Muti for a couple of weeks in the fridge with out issues. However I only add protein the day before a ride and directly into the bottles I'm riding with.

Oh, and I should add, I probably have the worlds most sensitive stomach. I'd definitly notice if it was off.

I use Hammer Nutrition Whey Isolate, it's vanilla flavored but still add a little vanilla essence as well.

If you keen on a splitting a 25kg bag of whey isolate with Theherminator and myself let me know and I'll get a current price from the supplier. This one isn't flavored.

You guys might want to try hemp protein powder in place of the whey protein. The hemp protein powder is more readily absorbed in the system and your body utalises more of it. Dont know the exact chemistry behind the whole thing. Its about R88 per kg and its natural and organic

Hi

I'm diabetic Type 1 (Insulin dependant) so the energy drink is a bit more critical for me, as wrong mixes can really mess up my sugar levels during and after a race/practice session.

I've used the USN Cyto Power for some time, and was OK, but not too great.  Then switched to USN Octance - massive improvement. Used their Energy Gels (definitely the best tasting of all I've EVER tried) when energy levels got low towards the end of a long ride.

I've now moved to Enduren.  GREAT AND AWESOME!!!  A normal person's blood sugar hovers between 4-6mmol. I've now had long races, where my sugar levels are constantly around 6. that is AWESOME.  I still carry the PVM Octane Energy Gels, but i've not used one in months.

What is great about the Enuren is that it does not have any artificial sweeteners, and basically tastes like water, just a bit sweet.  With all the others I found the taste sometimes causes slime and mucus.

One uses 50g per 750ml, works out to R6.80/750ml bottle.

Oh - and I heard that tehre are some studies indicating a link between eye-failure and fructose. So be careful of too much.  They say 1 teaspoon-full a day is OK, but more may cause problems on the long run.

Does this mean that your arms will  be too short to read as you venture

past forty only if you had a lot of fruit during your early years?

Yes I do and it is the best. Octane is for endurance sports i.e cycling, running etc. The octane xtr is for high intensity sports i.e sports that last for 90 minutes - rugby, soccer, gym etc.
