Any body looking for a 52 km entry, I must give mine up as I'm way to sick to ride this stunning event, mail me at (caceyn at mweb dot co dot za), don't want spam so just read the mail address correct.

Groenlandberg was quite an experience. Take Tokai's mast climb and replace the tar with loose rocky and rutted jeep track. Wow.

thanks for the reply guys. much appreciated

was just wondering, those who got around 47km distance, were your guys devices using ground speed distance or gps distance measurements? DMD, i know u used strava which is gps. i use a cycle computer which measure the revolutions of the front wheel in meters (set up with actual rolling distance with current tyre air pressure, actual weight, magnet positioning etc..) and convert it to km. i know my device also has a percentage error but surely cannot be more than 12% if the unit is "healthy"
My other events i recently did seems to give me an acceptable variation with only 2km diff for the 115km tip-trans, but then again, these electronic devices can fail over night.

i think, before i go and bin the computer, the best way to check is to do my usual trail and see if the numbers still add up. just curious to see what the distance other riders got (bmo a cycle computer with the magnetic sensor)

Sometimes when you measure your rolling distance the ambient temp could have been very different to the actual race day.  If set up hot, race very cold - you sometimes read a longer distance because the tyre is softer.  It sounds like you check that kind of thing.

I use strava and trekbuddy ( so I can access the gpx file and I like making my own maps) and sometimes the two programmes 'interprets' the gpx points differently, so that is not always 100% accurate either.
