Seat stay bolts poking me behind leg....?

Hi all

I bought myself a new Trek X Caliber 9 today, previously had an old Trek 26", but have not cycled for a number of years.

The bike was set up by the shop, I was measured etc so presumably the fit is ok, but one issue I only picked up after cycling for the first time when I got home was that the bolts on the seat stays press into the back of my thigh when I straighten either of my legs and lock the knee while still holding the handlebars in the normal position (hope this makes sense!). I removed the bolts but there is still the square bit (where the bolts are screwed into) which bothers me. Is this supposed to be happen? I must admit that I am not small (6" 130kg+) so my legs might be bigger than the normal skinny cyclist :-)

Anyone else who have of had this problem?

Should I take the bike back?

Thanks

I am not quite clued up on "normal" cycling positions, but I often straighten my legs on a  downhill to get a nice stretch. It's bothering me now because I did not have the same problem on my 26".

Youre not suppose to have this problem. Maybe the design of the seat clamp on the seat post doesnt suit your legs? Two bolts or single that hold the saddle? Maybe your lbs can swop seat posts if that is the problem?

Because of your height, your saddle may be further back than normal. If it only happens when you stretch your legs it shouldn't be a problem. Under normal pedalling, your legs should not extend straight and should not be hitting the bolts.

If your saddle is too far back, it could also be an indicator of a frame that is too small.

Take it back to the shop where you bought it and ask them to check it out whilst you are riding.
