Convert Fox CTD from 100 to 120?

A friend just bought an immaculate used 2014 Anthem 1 (27.5). She is keen to extend the fork to 120mm if possible as the bike will mostly be used for trail riding with the odd race for fun.

It is a 100mm Fox Performance series CTD with FIT damper. Is it just a matter of removing a spacer or is a new damper cartridge also needed?

As far as I know travel can be reduced on Fox forks with a shuttle bumper, but not increased. Probably need a new cartridge. Lets see what other have to say...

Hi,

Have the same bike and fork, You can make it 120mm travel by removing the pin and moving it to the second hole on the air chamber side, the spring then moves up by 20mm. But the damping stops working. I have tried this on my fork. Must be something to do with the FIT damping cartridge. So it does not work, only way is to buy a new 120mm fork.

I myself looked into this and it was concluded that it cannot be adjusted. You will need a 120mm specific fork.

On the Other hand and I know it's not relevant, but Rockshox Reba and Revelation can be adjusted depending on the limited travel fork that you purchased

Eg. Reba 80/100mm travel can be adjusted to just below 120mm and then a 120/140mm fork can be adjusted between 120 to 140mm.... However, this needs to be done by someone who knows what they doing, as it is not easy as....

Good Luck.... there are better expertise out there so don't take my word for on it...

Thanks all for the replies. According to Fox website it can be done but there are as many 4 different types of internals in this series of forks so you have to send in the serial no. Then they email you back a list of the parts/kits you'll need.

It looks like I will need a new damper minimum. 2nd problem is if the sa agents (Omnico?) actually keep all these parts.

3rd problem is they will only sell to me via a LBS that takes a % for not having done anything but shrug their shoulders when I asked if it was possible.....

Since it is a 2014 spec Giant I suspect there is an OD2 issue so the limited market makes it harder to just sell this almost new fork and replace with a longer one. Is why I was looking to convert.....

Full score on all three!!

Fortunately the bike is pretty good as is so I think its new owner will be happy anyway. Her previous bike was a 26er with 120mm Recon, hence the query about converting.
