at what time did it occur?

friend of mine just mentioned this morning he saw 2 very very suspicious looking thugs, 1 carrying a pole.

when our group came through there we noticed a SAPS van driving through Rhodes Memorial.

ping ping kandui, this is concern, its that time of the year, seems the thugs are out again. SanParks presence on the mountain, to me was last seen a week before the Argus if i remember correctly. others have said they've been stopped and fined for wildcards

Will send out warning on TokaiMTB's channels.

I too have seen some characters hanging around aimlessly - roughly two weeks ago. You just know that look of guilt/suspicion when you see it so I turned around to get another look and photograph for a database, but they must have seen me turning off because they were gone by the time I got back.

Not good...

He was hiding under one of the bushy Yellow Wood trees on the left as you go up the trail - probably about 350 meters in.  Unbelievably close to start of trail!!

Will see if one can cut that back a bit.  Lots of poles also lying around for weapons.

He made his escape further along the path, veering off to left, through the picnic area.  Was spotted by some of the picnic crowd, but they said even though he looked suspicious, nothing more than that.

Real pity!!

..heading up on ST 350m from entry - before the dam - hiding behind one of the Yellowwoods.. the picnic entry is just after the river higher up and would have escaped through the picnic main gate that joins the road.

Fokkit!

And this happened less than a stones throw from the most heavily guarded compound in the country after Nkandla - yes, it's across the road from where our "onnerrable" president lives when he is in Cape Town to listen to Julius demanding "his" money back! Perhaps that's where the thief fled to?

Last week it was a firearm-bikejacking on the M3 bridge at Mosterts Mill. Yes, no more than 100 metres away from another secure compound where one of our cabinet ministers live!

Coincidence you say?

yes, he was hiding "IN" the yellow wood.  It's one of the really bushy ones.  You'll notice a stack of poles lying under it.  Perfect spot to see bikes coming from both sides, and just far enough from road not to be spotted.

it's also close to that little techie corner, so you're bound to slow down at that spot.

not ideal, isn't it time we rally for Bicycle safety in our masses? Sanparks are only occasionally patrolling to fine non permit holders, there is not enough presence!

Had my bakkie broken into on 3 September and haven't been back since. Was going to go back for a ride this week. Perhaps not as I normally go alone after work around 5pm
