Jhb Botanical gardens ride direction?

Dude you need to take a chill pill. If you use Strava as a benchmark of people doing certain sections , you will see 1093 people have gone around that section clock wise since it has been included as a segment (To Park Point Top Roots). So its not just a few clueless people.

You carry on as if doing it anti clockwise means it its this super course that's all downhill!! Last time I checked, if you do the course as Patches has highlighted it, the total ascent will be more or less the same going either way. Both directions have uphill and downhill parts.

AS V12man says the only part that you need to be careful and mindful of is section B, where it is best to ride off the the flowing section. As said before this a public park, not a MTB specific park where the course builder/owner can dictate direction.

What do you do when you find a dogwalker on that piece of single track?????

Steve your newbieness is telling , Ive never used Strava- Im always careful and mindful of uppers which is why were having this conversation .its is a public park with various areas designated for various uses -defacto or otherwise .by design or otherwsie  Having a fun, sweet line like this one is rare and hence the irritation , the non chill pill post .And no I dont ride in a group of 10 . This is the end of this . My input is relevant and I hope has had its intended consequence .may be there will be something relevant again in 6 months time ...alot of the time most of 1000+ posters here talk alot of ***.and yes , Gary has the most sensible solution to this issue .

HfxO--- its a no brainer dude. Its a DOWN line( anti clockwise as you say ) ,always has been and always will be . its the one place on the spruit-emmies-3 parks whatever- that I will not giveway to an uprider. Hubbers like V12man and Uni only serve to create confusion and possible collision in this regard. We have posted stuff on this before and it seems their logic is still mired in tar .

PLEASE RIDE UP SOMEWHERE ELSE.THANK YOU .

I see the same twits who supported you the last time we had this issue do so again . And the 1000's of others out there with a sense of knowing just keep quiet and think ...what a chop!!.maybe you missed something with the "original builders" who were thinking how awesome this is going to be as A DOWN LINE------->>>

p.s it wasnt built 20 years ago so...more like 8 years ago .just goes to show what you know and what you think you know are divergent paths. While I respect your IMBA blah blah codes there are also codes of COMMON sense clearly none of which seems to resonate with you .

Hayley Comet, Patchs et al . When we all rode mtn bikes without shocks , without strava and without google maps it was quiet and nice and there was no nonsesne like this .Everybody used common sense. Then as numbers grew friction with other park users and the like grew . This was in particular a problem with the dog walkers . As mtn biking reached critical mass naturally a new line would develop along the top . For the "clockwise , uprider folk " there is second line (middle )through the trees without the berms and jumps and drop offs .Its specially for you guys ...maybe we should even make a sign that say " KILL JOYS RIDE HERE " Suffice to say this has not been mentioned by any of you .Why not ?Some of you who comment clearly have nothing (50 000 comments ??)better to do all day and form a lil sniping gang . grow the f&^* up .Oh and how about putting your real names and faces up here so when I see you coming up the line ......

Dude, you seriously need to reign you entitlement in.

Firstly, are you aware that that the signage at Emmarentia park forbids cycling? (Take a look for your self next time you are at the park)

So being able to ride there is thanks to the authorities turning a blind eye. But as entitled people like you manage to piss people of so much that they will go to the effort to post signs like the following, it is likely that authorities will start to take note, and start to apply the rules.

Emmarentia is a public park, not a MTB trail. You need to be respectful of other park users.

Aint got no time to be sensible...watch re-run of redbull rampage, get eye of the tiger feeling...ride botanical gardens(that in itself should tell you what you can expect, not really death valley or canyon gap now is it) and vloek everyone that dares to use the park for what it was intended...

Just need a full face to complete the outfit

Liewe aarde...give me a break

Oh and how about putting your real names and faces up here so when I see you coming up the line ......

Hi Grant,

The name is Matt Meredith, and as you will see from the photo below, I do ride the line (earlier specified as section B) *100% of the time in anticlockwise direction, with a fair amount of speed (...well... it felt fast to me).

You'll be able to tell from my physique that I am not accustomed to going up hills, and yes, I do struggle to keep a normal face while riding. It's a curse.

EDIT: that 0.01% of the time I ride that area clockwise, I don't actually ride on the trail. I use the dog walkers path

I wasn't aware that it was directional. But maybe you could help putting up some signage to help people with no brains like myself?

Just maybe not in the font used above

Hey Grant,

Sad to know you must probably be the only one on this thread that dont know my real name. I have had dinner parties at some on here's houses, dated one, rode fun trails with others...I guess because most people on here are maybe just more chilled and friendly so pretty cool to hang out with actually :)

As you can see I also ride CCW, I am the girl on the 'big bike' with flats and wide blue bars. I guess I am most noticable because of my black sock I wear on my left leg when I ride. If Strava was more accurate on trails (could actually destinguish between the ones on the grass and the tar strips) I think I might have had the QOM here, because I choose to ride the technical trails rather...BUT I'll still let the peeps coming up the hill pass me and I'll either off the trail or stop :D Say hello next time for sure!

Yup, correct! As I stated I always ride this line in the down (anti clockwise) direction, but I do keep my head up and on look out for dogs, kids, and oncoming traffic.

Wasn't built 20 years ago - sure it was - section C on Patches picture - Back when Suzie Mills was editor of the local MTB mag....  50c says you have No idea who she is... or Herman...

As to a code of common sense - it would be useful if you displayed some - some of those lines are really good uphill - and some of us can ride uphill - I grant you the right to ride it any way you want - just be polite and respectful of other riders, and KNOW there is no right or wrong way to ride it - unless you ride UP the wrong side of jumps - and I don't do that.

"Back when we rode mountain bikes without shocks. etc etc...." Funny - I still do ride a bike without shocks... actually more than one....

As to putting real names to user id's - why - we all know and respect each other - for reasons that 11 post wonder newbies clearly don't understand - I don't have enough repect for you at the moment to try and coach you even to be a better person - i will leave that to the nice guys like Patches - should he choose to accept that task.
