A mate of mine was bikejacked on Friday after work on the Blue Lagoon bridge, Durban North side.n broad daylight.

Took everything .

Still nothing has been done.  Time to burn the bush!

Please give more details. I cross that bridge almost every day. Sounds like it's on the Northern (P&P) side of the bridge. How many thugs? Did they carry weapons and what weapons if so? What kind of bike was taken? Is your friend male or female? It is really not that difficult to organize a "tea-party"  amongst a few Hubbers. We will all benefit if an impromptu visit is organized down at the short gravel road by the bush. Six or seven riders bashing with sticks into the bush might just change their point of view. In the meantime it will be a good idea to warn cyclist (bmo signage at the other end), to cross the bridge in numbers. I will phone around today and get a few stickers printed for the south side. This kind of thing just wakes up the wrong emotions in people.

Three guys, hid in the "guard hut" on the PnP side, knocked off bike, ran down the steps into the bush., approx 1645. All three had knives, seemed organised and quick according to the bloke as it is his second mugging in this spot.

He is trying to have Hotspot signs put up with the Municipality and Police in the hope of something happening.  Naturally, they want to keep this low profile due to tourism and the holidays.

I cross the bridge often myself and will be using the road now????

"Tea Party" - I am in.  Let's do it!

Wow thats mad, I would never have expected something like that over there.

That bridge would have been really busy at that time of day. Its too busy to ride on the actual road though so something needs to be done.

Lots of promises about sorting out this problem...still nothing...it has been going on for a long time and lots of people have been attacked at this location.

Time to burn buildings...tyres...block roads etc etc...which is not going to happen...like everything else in SA...just learnt live with it.

Learn to live with your life at stake doing something you love?

Just accept the fact that this is going to happen every time you pass the blockhouse?

Not going to happen. I would rather go down having at least tried to do something.

The only way.  Seriously.

while burning the bush may be the only way, it forms part of the nature reserve which is why they won't take it down.

best to start using the roads going both ways if you alone or in small numbers.

there have been a lot of threats...chief of police getting involved...community gangs to catch them...clean up operation... etc etc etc etc etc..................................................................all talk.

Fully aware of this as I have worked in the mangroves previously.  As for "nature reserve" = dumping ground for squatting and squatters.  Burn it I say because lives are more important.  One day a life will be lost.

Too many promises etc, no action......Just burn it and it will go away

There, fixed it!

Stay safe in that area guys.

Both sides are not safe.

Be careful.

i mean use the other bridge ...as in the one by golf course

Then where do you join up?  Umhlanga Rocks drive is not a good idea?

Ride back past the Green Hub route?  Not a good idea because of the many people staying in the bush along the river. How does one link up on the way to Umhlanga?

It seems the Green Hub is going to suffer because it is on a marked "Muggers route"

Boards need to go up warning others.  This is a Municipal obligation to warn others.  Just like they do with traffic signs.

Anthrax bombs or petrol bombs is the way to go.

These thieving scumbags and WE do nothing about it.
