You want a top 30 but need to ask the Hub about gearing?

Top 30 in Masters (150 finishers in 2015) is neither an elite amateur result or an novice amateur result. It is is a good result somewhere in between. I can understand your sarcasm if I was shooting for something higher but I have never been to South Africa and I was hoping to get some advice. Sorry for asking.

Ignore Patch, he is stuck up in JHB, jealous of the okes in CPT :P

Why is no one asking what speed his drivetrain is? It's probably a fair assumption that it would be an 11 speed.

Jorge, what is your current setup? SRAM or Shimano 11 speed?

Personally, there is a lot of safety in a double ring setup and you can do higher speeds on the flats without spinning your legs off.

Thankyou. I sold my FS bike a few months before I got into the Cape Epic lottery so I'm currently training on my hardtail and my road bike. My hardtail is a 38x24 front with 11-36 rear. I know the Epic is a FS race so I'll be buying a new bike soon (I was planning on anyway). The reason I ask the question is because a lot of the brands (at least in the US) have moved to single chain ring in their top models. I have had good luck in the past with slightly used bikes on ebay instead of paying the brand new premium price. It's only that a lot of what I see available is single chain ring so that was the reason for my question.

Hey, between the sarcasm and thread hijacks there was lots of advice.

Most pointed to using 2x10/11, single chain ring only for the very fast or very silly. When you come over, pack extra bug spray, pepper spray and an extra little sense of humor ;)
