Giant warranty claim

I got a brand new 2013 Giant frame in 2015, I will understand if they don't have the frame in stock anymore.  I know the shop where I got the bike from, still have some of those 2013 frames.

And you know that your 2013 frame cracked, why would you want the same frame again?

Hi, 

 

So when I was the workshop Manager for a Specialized dealer in Durbanville, This is how we dealt with a warranty.

 

If the bike was bought from our the store.

 

Strip bike

Send frame with paper work to head office.

Keep the client up to date with what the outcome is.

 

If the frame was a warranty - we would cover the entire labor fee including gear cables & housings, but if new parts had to be fitted due to frame specifics, the client would have to pay for them.

 

If it was bought from a different store, we would follow same protocol except tell them upfront a labor charge will be charged along with anything that's needed to be replaced.

 

"Why should you cover the cost of a new bb when Giant has failed to keep sufficient stock of the frame you bought?"

 

Eugene, do you even know what year frame and model it is ?

They should get back to you.

I had to pay R600 for the strip and another R600 for the build when my Giant frame was cracked.

Who ever charges that much to strip a bike should be banned from fixing bikes IMO.

And you know that your 2013 frame cracked, why would you want the same frame again?

I never said I wanted the same frame.  I told my LBS, I don't want a yellow or a orange frame and if possible, I want a through axle frame.

Ok so take the bike back to where you bought it. They may even cover the build cost.

Right, so we know the frame is not even 6 months old. Right there is a CPA warranty. This means Giant are obliged to replace AND cover any associated costs. They don't have a choice.

 

I cannot believe that so many people think it's fair to cover costs. You buy a frame with a lifetime warranty, it is expected to last longer than 6 months.

Does it matter? If Giant are unable to supply the same frame as before and provides a new frame that uses a different bb, then they should cover the cost of a new bb.

Quick question.

 

My Force crank arm had a defect, was replaced under warranty. My LBS charged me for courier fees to get it to you guys and for the new ones to be sent back is that correct?

Cape Cycles will pay one way and the bike shop must pay the other.

Every year head office brings int he new model range.

 

They are not going to keep old stock of every frame, color and size for warranty.

 

You will be upgraded to a new model frame if they do not have what you currently have.

 

I cannot speak for Dragons as i work for a completely different company all together.

 

If it was my personal bike, I would not be complaining about paying for a bottom bracket as i just got a new frame.

You need to take some time and read Giant's Warranty policy.

Ok cool.....a bb is cheap. But it's the principle of the matter. What if Giant decides to scrap 29ers? They aren't expected to keep stock of every frame ever made. So they don't have any 29ER frames in stock. They give you a 650b and wash their hands. Suddenly you have to cough up R10k for a new fork, wheels and tyres. Thats not a small price to pay for a new frame?

 

I know someone who had to pay in R2k for a new shock because his replacement frame used a different sized shock. Eventually he had to settle for a hardtail because he could not afford the new shock. No it wasn't a Giant.

As mentioned in my other post. It is the principle of it. A bb is cheap, agreed, but it could be more. The Ops original frame is only 6 months old. He could end up paying R1 000 or so for a new bb and rebuild. That would get my back up.

The bb alone is R300+.

Not trying to be funny or offensive, but why not just buy the tools once off, and learn how to do it yourself? It's actually incredibly easy and needs only one or two specialised tools (mainly for the BB install). Everything else is screwdrivers and Allen keys. YouTube is so full of videos it's not even funny.

 

Then, you save money for the life of the bike and when any minor repairs.

 

I do everything myself apart from touching wheels or suspension.

 

Hell, in your situation I would at least strip the bike myself and only pay for rebuild. It's ten minutes and will save you a couple bucks.

 

And as for the BB. Take it on the chin. It's not that expensive and cannot be a granted gift from the frame manufacturer in my opinion.
