Yes there's a whole list of people who believe they have a chance of yellow today.

From breakaway specialists to the Classics stars, as well as the sprinters who can climb.

So I reckon today is going to be raced full gas from the gun.

Everyone and his dog will want to be in the break. So there's going to be attack after attack until one eventually manages to get away. Expect to see reports of the first hour being over 50km/h average speed.

Then in those rollers in the final 65km, another list of people who think they can get away there (Gallopin, Gougeard, Vakoc, etc., etc.).

And then finally the big attacks on the final climb to the finish. Guys sprinting from the bottom to the top. Just like a world champs finish on the Cauberg.... Gilbert will be crying into his packet of frites that he's not there today.

A bit much to expect DD to take yellow again today with EBH but there is a chance. I would keep an eye on the various Belgians and of course Sagan.

Well DD are on a roll.. I say why the hell not.. if it can't be Sagan it must be Eddie B.

Although you know we shouldn't forget about Spartacus today.

One person we haven't mentioned yet is Cancellara.

The old dog might still have the odd trick up his sleeve yet.

We think a lot alike.. just mentioned him in my previous post.

Funny thing a few years ago he would've been the first on our list.

And the way he destroyed the rest at Flanders chasing after Sagan is definitely a sign that he still has all that power.

Ja he's been very quiet since the spring. Just that one appearance on the winners podium for the stage 1 TT at Tour de Suisse, but besides that he's been flying under the radar.

And with this being his last TDF, no ways he's just there to make up the numbers.

Good news:

All 198 riders have signed on.

Grey skies greeted the Tour peloton ahead of the start, though the rain has at least abated for now.

Cavendish has chosen an understated way to mark his first day in the yellow jersey, limiting the yellow accoutrements on his bike to handlebar tape and pedals.
