Strong and Light - can I have both?

When fitting tyres the other day, I decided to weigh everything that was laying around ~ wheels, discs, cassette etc. Everything weighed pretty much what I expected.

The tyres were a shock. 1x Maxxis Ardent, 1x Maxxis Crossmark, 90ml of sealant in each, total 1.85kg

That's a hell of a lot of weight, much more than I expected they would weigh. On the flipside though, I have had zero puncture problems.

What options are out there, that offer decent grip and puncture resistance without weighing more than a boat anchor?

Strong. Light. Cheap. You can have any two....

I've had good experience with Vredestein Black Panther, very good balance between rolling resistance, grip, strength, weight and price.

onza canis, but IMHO you want reliable and bomb proof. light means nadda

i am currently trying a spez ground control grid tyre, weighs 1080g and cant feel any difference to a 600g racing ralph. however i know i can ride over a landmine and will be fine

My roadie mentality tells me that lighter is better.

My low tolerance for irritations tells me that puncture resistance is more important.

I'm not overly concerned about price.

I'm biased towards Continentals....but the Race King 2.2 Protektion's weigh 650g each...so with about 100ml of sealant each you end up with 1500g and no worries about punctures or sidewall cuts.
