Sidi Wire Carbon shoe fitting

I bought a set of Sidi Wire Carbon Vernice Shoes a few months ago. Every time I ride, say over 2 hours, which is most rides. I get a unbearable pain I'm my right heel, at every pedal stroke it feels like my heel is being pulled of or somebody is driving a knife into it. Its only on my right foot. I have other shoes, Garne which do not do that, seems to be bruised at the moment as I did a 4 hour ride this morning, wearing the Garne shoes and for the last 30  minutes I had pain. Last time I used the Sidi's was last weekend on a 100km ride last Sunday, the last hour of the ride was almost unbearable.

Has anybody else experienced this and if so, is there solution? Apart from getting another make of shoe.

Before anybody asks the shoes are the right size.

I love SIDI shoes. I always buy them in one size larger than what I wear in other shoes. I find them narrow and very tight around the heel. Thus the reason for going a size larger.

I tried a size 45 and it was just too big. I have tried releasing the heel cup adjustment, still the same pain.

Sidi's are generally a narrow fit. They are available though in a wider fit. Most Sidi's have a heel retention system. From Sidi website: The heel retention device tightens the top of the heel cup so that the heel doesn’t slide out during steep climbs or sprints. Each side of the heel can be adjusted independently, for a perfect fit. For a custom adjustment turn the screw towards the + sign to tighten the heel retention device and towards the – sign to open it. Light weight, easy to use, and replaceable.

Are your cleats set up properly?

Ditto.

Cleat setup might have been different, leading to a slight change of muscle-group change....leading to tendon / ligament / muscle strain in the heel.

This may seem far-fetched, but I had a problem like this a while ago - where my heel had a kind of sharp pain - especially on MTB technical sections or powering down on the pedals. Peroneal Tendinitis.

Best bet is to take shoes, bike and all to a physio or cycling-injury specialist for inspection.

You might be right, the shoe position does not feel 100% right in the cleats. Any idea where to take it?

I'm from the WC so unfortunately I can't help out with the where or who. But ask around for reputable physio / biokineticists / or bike-fitting specialists with a medical background (read no bike shops) so they can assess both cleat/bike-setup and your injury.

Take the heel cup adjustment right off - if that does not work then I suspect you need a different size.

That heel cup thingie is adjustable hey

Are you tweaking it?

I have played with it, tried making it tighter and looser, the result is more or less the same, pain in my heel. Problem is, it comes after about 2 hours riding, so its not a quick adjust and try. Have also emailed Sidi, see what they come back with and I will try getting a proper fit. At this point its the Garne's for the 94.7.
