a big plus to the 2016 forks is they have dropped a lot of weight. The Xc forks are around 1500gr now which is about half a pound lighter than previous versions

Yes it's a trade off I agree. Hence that trade off may not be to everyones liking.

I simply run a 2.25 now to maintain some roundness to the tyre. Schwalbes seem to be  higher volume casing so they are less affected but the squaring off effect.

Hence if going WideLightning tyre consideration is a bit more important than with a Disc 101 Tubeless. I reckon those are wide enough anyway at 28mm.

WL at 32mm are really more into high volume All Mountain territory. but they're light enough for XC/Marathon at 370gr per rim(average)

When Iwan had his WL's on the Vipa, running Racing Ralphs, he actually told me that they now seemed to grip the ground instead of skate off it. Which, for RaRa's, is pretty impressive!

Also down to the lower pressure you're able to run them at.

PS: be carefull on wheels. I have been throwing my legs over some WideLightnings and I'm thinking that although these are not as wide as AM rims they may be a bit wide for Marathon and Jozi type trails. they square the tyre off enough to make a noticeable difference to how a tyre feels.

You get used to it but it may not be to your liking. I'd suggest you try and test a pair with your favourite tyre. You may appreciate that a slightly narrower rim like the AMerican Classic Disc 101 Tubeless may be more to your liking and its available as a separate rim which allows you to choose your hubs. WL are wheelset only although free rims can be found on Ebay from time to time

I was actually pondering this the other day. Many of the current MTB tyres were designed when much narrower rims were the order of the day. As such, the tyre was optimised to work on the narrower rim, which "rounds" the tyre. With wider rims, you're flattening out a tyre that wasn't designed with such wide rims in mind.

This might be most evident on tyres which have very high/aggressive side knobs, where, on a narrower rim, you'll "transition" to the side knobs when leaning the bike over, as opposed to wide rims, where you might be riding a lot more on the side knobs.

It obviously depends on how wide the rim is and the tyre used.

How's the WL a big difference on the Camber compared to original 2014 Roval wheelset that the bike came with. Is it worth the cash

Im my opinion yes, the bike climbs better, rolls better, and grips better. And a tad more flickable due to the light weight.
