Indoor trainer that fits 15mm through axle

Hi All

 

I am looking for an indoor trainer. Nothing fancy, only to spend a bit of time peddling indoors.

I would like to be able to use my mountain bike with a 15mm through axle, but don't seem to be able to find one that can accommodate through axles.

 

Does anyone know of a basic Indoor Trainer that accommodates a through axle, or some sort of conversion kit.

You should perhaps be more concerned if it fits a 29er with mtb tires on.... not many trainers do....

 

Of course - riding a knobblie on a trainer is a nightmare... don't know whats worse - the bum buzz or the noise....

Yip definitely would like it to fit a 29er.

Maybe there is a conversion kit to run a through axle wheel with a skewer (I will try research this) that can be used indoors.

If it helps, the Giant Cyclotron fits my 29er.. There is one for sale at the moment in the classifieds..

Can you run a through axle on the Giant Cyclotron?

I haven't tried, but I doubt it with the standard fittings on the Cyclotron.

Seems you may need something like this and then an insert to protect the thread in the frame..

I'll take some measurements later (ID of the cyclotron clamp things and OD of my thru axle) and let you know.. It might work if you grind the opening in the IDT clamp bigger for the lever of the thru axle to fit in it. And the other side clamp might fit over the knob in the frame that houses the thread, BUT if it does fit, it will most certainly damage/scratch the frame...

 

Will revert in a few hours.

I have tried rollers once, its much harder than it looks. keeping your balance and not trying to fall. .

Theoretically it should work, depending on the design of your thru axle... For mine to work I would need to cut the lever handle wider to accommodate it, but otherwise should work fine.
