Hay Guys,

I am new to the forum so I hope I posted the topic in the correct section...

So I am a casual moutain biker and wanting to maybe upgrade my front fork to Rockshox/Fox.

But the question is, is it possible with my bike. I have a Scott Aspect 640 with a large frame.

I just want to know if it is possible, and if it is possible must I replace stuff in order for the new fork to fit?

Thanks for your time guys.

It is definitely possible. You need to make sure that

- the steerer tube is the same (straight / tapered)

- the steerer tube is long enough for your large frame + stem + spacers

- that the dropouts are the same (quick release or through axle)

From what I see about the 640 you have a straight steerer and quick release dropouts.

Then I wouldn't over capitalize on that bike with a new fork  but there are always really good bargains on 26" Rebas etc in the classifieds here which would be a nice upgrade for you.

Some say that if you are brave enough to admit to certain lbs' that you still ride a 26er, you can pick up Godfather deals on 26er forks. I might know some people who that happened to... If you go for a Fox, you will probably be able to fit a 650B wheel in there in the future, making your bike real future proof, of course if one will fit on the rear of your bike..

Ahem, I may have an, ahem Rockshox Silver TK single air for sale (26'). I'll just have to measure the steerer length.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Is this ethical? Hmmm... I think it's OK.

Excellent reply! Thanks man. I understand what you are saying. I will keep this in mind.

EDIT: I will buy a fork on TheHubSA, not new.

Sorry guys, my funds in not ready for upgrading unfortunately... :(

Started riding again because it is summer, I am PC Gamer, I build a PC in the winter. So my money is on empty. Haha, yeah I don't want to upgrade to another bike, because I love my frame (black & white). Yes, I know it is not the best, but I will rather want to upgrade it a little via TheHubSA, very nice prices, and I don't mind second hand. I will definitely post another thread when I have the money. But yeah, thanks for your guys advice and support, really appreciate it! :P

EDIT: Some of your comments sounded like Greek to me, because lately I am into PC, not so clued up with bicycles as good as I used to be lol.

If you're trying to solve his problem and end up solving one of your own I'd say you're good. It's a far better fork than what he's got on there now.

OP - With a new lower headset assembly you can run a tapered steerer on that frame, which expands your options slightly. It'll cost you a few extra bucks but it may be worth it depending on what you find.
