Gona be my first and maybe only Argus I ride.

Had accommodation booked in Noerdhoek...but due recent family tragedy...i didnt get back to the place i had book...so they have given our spot away...not their fault i understand i would have done the same.

We have managed to find another place in Simons town...apparently the race goes through Simons Town...my only concern is the road closures and getting in and out of the place we have booked...good or bad idea to stay in Simons Town?

yip don't think Simonstown will be the best place to be. Rather look for a spot in central town/Greenpoint or around the Blouberg/Sunset Beach/Milnerton area as it will be much easier to get in/out of town from here.

We always stay in Greenpoint- right across the stadium. R 950 p.n. for me and my wife. self catering. all shops, restaurants are in walking distance so I don't have to rent a car.

We book for the following year when we leave- due to the convenience, these places are booked quickly.

I think Simons Town is going to be a bit of a challenge.

Simonstown to CBD is a challenging trip with open roads never mind road closures.

I'd definitely stay closer to the start/finish as others have also suggested.

Good point - organisers may have to arrange a tented village at the stadium to accommodate those who have lost their reservations. LOL

Depending on budget. No better place than The Cullinan or Southern Sun Waterfront. They cater for cyclists. Even 4am breakfast and mechanic in the foyer. Bike storage etc.

Agreed -Try Sea Point, Green Point, Mouillie Point, Waterfront, City Centre, Tamboerskloof, Gardens. Further out it just becomes a mission unless you know the place and have transport.

I am driving down from Durban on Wednesday...staying over with family in PE on Thursday...staying in Cape town...thurs...fri...sat and sunday...leaving monday...stay over in PE and drive home on tues...good excuse for a holiday ;)

Accommodation...budget is around R1200 per night...self catering would be the best.

our petrol budget for our holiday in October last year was R10 000...but we managed to get 1100 km per 80 litres...we only did 5500 km so fuel bill was only R5500...worked out a lot cheaper than flying 3 of us...plus hiring a vehicle etc etc.

Nice Holiday and almost 14 km to the litre is not bad at all. I just do not want to spend 36 hours driving there and back. As much as driving is a form of escapism, still, 3600 is a bit much for me. Enjoy the scenery. Pity there is not a single tree left in Transkei to add visuals to the experience. Just multiple water-erosion evidence on the hills of Transkei.

For R1200 per night for four nights, you can rent out my apartment in Gardens and I will sleep in my car (or go stay at a friend)!
