Axis A70

Hi, Judd.

You seem quite set on the Axis. They are generally good entry-level bikes, particularly for people who are unsure whether they want to commit fully to the sport before spending top $ on a bike.

The components are entry-level, so my best advice would be to manage your expectations. The bike will perform fine, but within limits. For getting fit and cruising around the 'burbs and along smooth district roads, it'll be fine.

Thanks for the opinion. What I do like about the Axis is that  I will be buying it brand new, with half decent components that would get me on my way, and of course being new, have a warranty attached to it.

if you haven't got a mate who knows about bikes to check it out for you  (which is best)

then post the info about it and your pics or the link to the ad and let the resident forum give an opinion on wether its a good deal etc

or ask the seller if you (or he or both of you) can take it to a bike shop and ask the resident LBS mec to give an opinion (if they are a decent LBS they wont mind)

you really can get good deals on used bikes (with better forks and components) if you are patient and ask for advice before you buy

That does make sense. Unfortunately I know no one who is able to view the bike with me. On first glance, what are your thoughts on the bike? I did ask the guy to post pics as there aren't any at the moment.

if you mean this one

https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/171474-giant-revel-1/

its a stock std ( with the bits it came new with) giant revel 1

giants are good bikes

its a solid (if heavy) basic entry level bike with entry level bits on

without pictures its hard to say more

it is a 26" which is why its a bit cheaper than sum I would think

if that doesn't bother you

find out a bit more and get sum pics

Hmmm....Not exactly sure about a 26er. Been told by numerous guys that the least I should be looking for is a 27.5", with the winner being a 29er.

FYI: I am 1.93m and about 120kg

This bike actually even has an XT rear derailleur.

I'd check it out, may be very good value for money, especially if you can get it for R3000

The problem with buying new, is it's never good value for money.

Thank you, and I completely agree! Bought a brand new car in March '15 and will never do that again.

Then I would definitely look at the secondhand Jamis or Momsen in the classifieds, both are 29ers.
