The plummeting Rand has seen my plans of getting a 2016 Trance 2 on hold. Prices have gone up by 20%. So, is it worth looking at the 2016 Trance 3, which is a fair bit cheaper.. The components look a bit 'low end' and I may end regretting it. Or, should I just buy it and slowly upgrade the components, because it's a good quality frame?

What size you looking for? Dan Dobinson has a small for sale in very good condition. 17k.

It might be a bit late, but look for sales on last years models

I did. No stock. 2015 Trance 2's were going for R19000. All sold out. The 2016 Trance 2 is now R31000 and climbing.

It actually doesnt look too bad.

It is same wheels and frame.

Suspension doesn't look bad (in fact I'd like to try it over the entry level fox stuff on the Trance 2 as that is crap)

The rest of the stuff is Deore which is actually pretty good. Perhaps the lack of clutch on the RD is a slight issue but SLX RD are cheap.

2015 Trance 2 for R19k. Not likely, they went for R22k minimum.

Think like said above the 2016 Trance 3 isnt bad but also planty of really good condition 2nd hand ones come up aften. Was one recently with really good upgrades, pike if I recall, going for R26k. Maybe thats a better option??

I went through the same exercise, and got my t2 last week. Shop around, I got a huge price difference between shops in Cape Town and shops in the platteland.

As far as I know the Trance 3 is not available in SA. only the t4 and t2 are available in aluminium.

Oh, and if you think they are expensive now, wait until the next batch comes in in mid Feb, might make your eyes water.

Have to agree with Phillip.

I bought my Trance 2 last year October and got it for over R2000 cheaper from my previous LBS in PE. That included transport costs to get it to Pretoria, with a few extras thrown in for supporting them.

Shop around.

The deore brakes on my camber work just fine.

Good modulation and stop like boat anchors...

Many overseas reviews state that there's little to no difference between deore, slx and xt brakes.

Just put a 203mm rotor up front and moved the 180mm that was upfront to the rear. That has made a big improvement too. The Deore's are very on and off, not much modulation and lever adjustment would be nice too, but they have the same power as my previous bikes SLX brakes. Just not as refined.

There is not much difference between SLX and XT but definitely between Deore and SLX, IMO.
