Hi

I am loosing pressure in my rear shock. I have had it serviced regularly and if I do it again it will be the third time. It is still the original Monarch RT.

I upgraded my front shock to a Fox 32 Talas CTD with trail adjust. I generally ride around the Noordhoek /Tokai area.

I weigh around 97kg and pump my shock to around 210 psi (1psi per pound)

Any advice on an equivalent replacement/upgrade or just another service?

I bought the bike new in September 2012 so its coming up for 4 years. The seals were replaced in February 2015 by my LBS

Hi Miles

Generally ride 2 or 3 times a week. Clock up around 3500km per year of which 2/3 on mtb and 1/3 road. So probably needs to be serviced more often. I do keep a running total on hours especially since I neglected my front shock and had to replace it with the current Fox. I try to stick to the 100hr rule for a major service. Just had the front shock serviced via LBS at Omnico.

You're meant to service the shock every 100 - 150 hours or once a year. If you wait for it to start leaking you'll wear out the damper body and air sleeve, and that's when it starts getting expensive...

As far as I understand, Forks should also be serviced this often?

Does this mean just service the lowers, or should the damper also be serviced annually?

I've quoted full rebuild intervals - a lowers oil change in between never hurts though, and it's a pretty simple thing to do if you've got a workbench and a stand at home.

Aside from extending the life of both fork and seals, it has the added benefit of checking the condition of seals and wipers before any damage is done.
