Anybody done this before? How enjoyable is it? How technical and tough is it?

Was thinking of entering either the 60km or 30km. Just need some more info.

Will be great to make a weekend out of it at Avalon Springs. Haven't been there in ages.

Lovely ride, lots of dual tracks, farm roads and gravel roads, couple of steep climbs

Very lekker ride and weekend away

We usually go with a whole bunch of friends doing MTB and trail running on the weekend

I did the 80km last year, toying with the idea of doing it again this year. My dad and I drive through from Stellenbosch and getting up at 4am in the winter is a bit rough.

About the route - I can only sing it praise. Very scenic and thoroughly demanding. If have not done this before I can highly recommend it.

How technical is it? Im still pretty new to mountainbiking so don't wanna do something where im out of my league. Thinking of entering the 60km route. Distance I think i can manage but obviously the skill level is what concerns me.

Not a technical ride, if you chose the right distance it is a brilliant endurance ride. Most of the time you are on Jeep track and dirt roads. The only thing the 80K has over the 60K is the climb up and speeding down of Ouberg pass (not to be confused with Ouberg pass in NC). So if you are thinking of the 60K you might as well do the 80K.

I am yet to do the Amarider 100 miler, but I looking at the route and also what the 50 miler is about I would say the 80K MMM is more of a challenge.

I'll be there for the new 26k trail run - with something wicked like 2700m ascend!  :whistling:  Planning on spending the weekend there with the fam.

Bub, 50-miler is quite pricey... And it's (loal enough for me to know them) gravel roads rollers all the way. Corrugated gravel rollers... Not sure about the mtb prices on this one, but at least the scenery is different! I rode around a bit with a buddy one weekend there and really enjoyed it. As I was typing, Roux confirmed what I was about to say - if it was me, I'd do the Montagu 80.

Pricing is R 230 for the MMM and R 320 for the 50miler but you need a trail tag for the 50miler which is an additional 100 bucks.

Think I'll go for the Montagu event. The hot springs after the race sounds brilliant and we can make it a family weekend holiday.

Thanks guys.

80km MMM Much more interesting route than the '50 miler' so probably a bit tougher (as Rouxenator said)

Must do the the 80, very nice dirt road and jeep-track and of course some uneven bits, but nothing to classify as technical

At the last water point in 2015 they had all kinds of "refreshments" I pretty much downed a Klippies&Cola before I continued on with the last 10K.

That time of year I hope they have some of the area's muscadel on the trail run water points!

Took Muskadel and some biltong at the top of Ouberg pass where you get the orange sticker to confirm you made it up. Funny how in retrospect I only remember the good bits and not the struggle up the pass.

Unless you do an Enduro organised race all the MTB races I've done around here are aimed at dirt roadies anyway...

Please point me in the direction of something technical if there are any races like that :)

Okay so I've entered the 60km event. Also my accommodation is booked at Avalon Springs for the weekend so should be pretty cool. Looking forward to this.

Who else is in for this race?
