Okay so I've entered the 60km event. Also my accommodation is booked at Avalon Springs for the weekend so should be pretty cool. Looking forward to this.

Who else is in for this race?

Im doing it. Will be my second one. Misses out as it fell in our hunting week/weekend.

This year I will do MMM on Saturday, leave for Namibia on my hunting trip. Thought about the Wacky Wine the next weekend, but I dont think I will be well enough for that ride

I did the 80km last year, toying with the idea of doing it again this year. My dad and I drive through from Stellenbosch and getting up at 4am in the winter is a bit rough.

About the route - I can only sing it praise. Very scenic and thoroughly demanding. If have not done this before I can highly recommend it.

I'm doing the 80km on Saturday.

Thanks for sharing your Strava data of last year's race! The climb up Ouberg Pass looks interesting....! One question though - it seems as if we're climbing to the top of the pass and then make a u-turn and come down again - right? If so,  isn't it a problem when some chaps are still climbing when others are breaking land speed records descending on the same road?

At the top of the pass you will get a sticker on your race number - they do check this at the end. Also at the top you can help yourself to some Muscadel and biltong - well worth it. Stick to the right side of the road and you will not have any problems. The riders going up are very slow and move out of the way for the speeders coming down.

Enjoy it - I'll be back next year because it really is a very enjoyable ride.

I'm trying new things this years - missed Willow Creek last weekend so I could do my first Ama Rider 100 miler. This weekend I'm trying out DBX. The thing I loved most about Montagu was the amount of time it demanded to finish. I love those long character building rides.

Unless you do an Enduro organised race all the MTB races I've done around here are aimed at dirt roadies anyway...

Please point me in the direction of something technical if there are any races like that :)

If you have not done Tru-Cape give the 50km a go. Probably not as tech as enduro but probably as tech as you going to get for a xm race.

Shot :)

Will give it a go, but have no high hopes :P

Okay well that was insanely tough. Not sure how I finished but basically crawled over the line. Those last 20 Km's were absolute torture with those rolling climbs.
