Will be there doing the Ultra :)

Sprint is good first to get a feel, especially the transitions and getting the body use to change in disciplines.

Also look at Trinity sports, then have a Tri on 24 April in Germiston

Hi Shaper,

Thanks for the advice.  Any other advice or tips will be appreciated.

Need to find a pool, not to worried about the cycle and run.  Do I need to rent a wetsuit for this event?

I doubt you would need a suit but if you want the extra confidence it brings then chat to Terry at xterra wetsuits, he is super helpful and does wetsuit rentals.

You shouldn't need a wetsuit, quite a few did this without one last year.

You can practice open water swimming at heia safari, else just swim at the gym.

As it is your first one, don't get over eager and go for it... there a nasty short sharp rise at the end of the cycle and the run is not flat ... so save something in the legs

Hi,

thanks.  I read that they will determine a hour before the race.  Can they make it compulsory?  What if I go through all the trouble, get there, and they say wet suit race and I don't have one?  will I not be able to participate?

Thx shaper, I live in the bush, no gyms or other swimming venues close by.  I might get a pool to use for March at least.  How long should a 500m swim take a mere mortal more or less?

Will keep in mind the cycle and run!

Who will be staying the weekend, or do you guys travel the Sunday morning?  Thinking of making it a family weekend and make a booking at the cabanas.

Compulsory wet suit swim at Sun city.... Cold day in hell is more likely :whistling:

More chance they will not allow wetsuits if the water is to warm..... especially in the ultra

Depends which rules the apply...

ITU rules for wetsuits:

We are making a weekend of it, staying in the Cabanas.

I'm a terrible swimmer, did my first triathlon two weekends ago at Germiston lake. The water was 24 degrees so wetsuits weren't allowed. The 1.5k swim took me 35min, I was one of the last guys out of the water... so I hope wetsuits are allowed.
