Sun City Ultra Triathlon

We are making a weekend of it, staying in the Cabanas.

I'm a terrible swimmer, did my first triathlon two weekends ago at Germiston lake. The water was 24 degrees so wetsuits weren't allowed. The 1.5k swim took me 35min, I was one of the last guys out of the water... so I hope wetsuits are allowed.

35 mins for a 1.5k swim is not a bad time, never go too hard in the swim, it will wreck the rest of your race.

Thx shaper, I live in the bush, no gyms or other swimming venues close by.  I might get a pool to use for March at least.  How long should a 500m swim take a mere mortal more or less?

Will keep in mind the cycle and run!

without a wetsuit and an average swimmer you should be looking 2-2:30mins/100m... so for 500m..... 10-15mins

Ok cool thanks for this info.  I am still carrying some buoyancy around the waist, so at least I should float rather than sink.

I need to enter tomorrow and also book accommodation.

Really looking forward.

whoohoo I did my first swim yesterday.  Completed 150meters and was bummed.  Luckily still got some time to improve.  Need to get some goggles ASAP.

Hi guys, can anyone recommend any cheap accommodation or camping in the area? We are a group of four students who would like to spend the night before there but just want to see what our options are as cost is a big factor.

Wont be doing it this year, its just too close to Ironman this year. Last year it was not wet suit compulsory and its unlikely to be compulsory this year but of course you never know.

its a great event, the cycle is really friendly except for the last uphill by the sun city hotel but its short and right at the end , the wind can be annoying too but generally friendly.

The run is throught the golf course and round the back of valley of the waves and along some of the back areas of sun city x 2 laps. I never really got going on the run as its full of twists and turns but it certainly is scenic and enjoyable.

All, round a great even t.

As for cheap accommodation. Pilansberg is there as is the sundowner ranch. sundowner ranch is around 900 pppn or something , not terribly cheap but so so. pilansberg I am not sure of the cost but I would think around 200 pppn.

Seeing as the Trirock cradle is defunct us gautengers need to support this one, I think its the only half left in the region now.

Did very little training the last two weeks. Currently sitting with a swollen ankle, so hopefully everything will be ready come Sunday.

Hi guys it's almost go time!

I am a bit concerned with the sudden drop in temperatures the last week.  I do not have a wet suit, so either going to have a very cold swim, or totally miss out if they decide it is wet suit compulsory!!!

Will be travelling to Sun City after work today.  See you there.

hi, thanks for the reply.  if I was any closer I would have taken you up on the offer, thank you very much, unfortunately I am outside Mafikeng, so not that close.

I have tried phoning the number of an advertisement from bike basement on rentals, but without any luck, so just hoping the swim will be on.  Also, I am only doing the sprint, as this is my first event, so should not be in the water too long hopefully.

cheers

Hi, how did it go?  The vibe and organisation was great.  I really enjoyed it.

The swim was the hardest!

The swim was a bit longer than I expected, 2.4km? I found the cycle easy but the run brutal... I almost died on that last 21kms of twists and turns. All in all, a great day out, will definitely be back next year.
