And just to confuse you here isa video that tells you Lotto-Soudal is now Lotto-Fixit for the duration of the race.

Always struggle to find *that* much interest in a race that explicitly runs away from the awesomeness of Northern Europe racing at this time of the year. I guess the skinny ones have to stay warm! ;)

The race to the sun...

Paris-Nice boasts an impressive start list. Richie Porte will have a hard time to defend his title as the likes of Froome and Contador will be eyeing up the overall also.

The 2016 edition of Paris-Nice is tailor made for climbers. Last year, the race featured both a prologue and a closing time trial, this time the only chance for the chrono specialists is in the prologue at day one. In essence, the mountains of stage 5 and stage 6 are most suited to attack and make a difference. Especially stage 6 offers chances as the closing climb is 15.3 kilometres at 5.7%.

Strong descenders should be eyeing up stage 7, as the 141 kilometres route features six climbs before a 15 kilometres drop marks the end of Paris-Nice 2016. Tony Gallopin was in a class of his own when he plunged down this finale in 2015 to take both the stage win and the leader’s jersey (which he lost in the time trial on the next day).

Title defender Richie Porte and Albert Contador are bot two-time overall winners of Paris-Nice.

Favourites Paris-Nice 2016:
The obvious:  Alberto Contador, Richie Porte
The ‘maybes’: Romain Bardet, Tony Gallopin, Rui Costa, Geraint Thomas
The Dark Horses: Simon Spilak, Wilco Kelderman, Andrew Talansky, Tom Dumoulin

Look forward to it...always enjoy this race!!

Yeah, one of my favorites as well. I will be rooting for my man Berto, but Porte appears to be showing some strong conditioning, whereas Berto's condition is pretty much unknown but I have never seen him enter a race he didn't try and win, so I think he will be up to it.

If its neck and neck between them it may well come down to the stronger team, and Tinkoff will have that hands down.

I flippin hope so!!

Isn't froome skipping it? Haven't seen a team list for Movistar but I'd like to see if Carlos Betancur is starting and see if he's fat Carlos or the rider who won in 2014 so well.

Edit: Froome is hanging about in RSA until he heads back to Europe for Volta a Catalunya on March 21.

Not sure about Froome. Betancur...well you never know which Betancur is going to turn up. Fat and hang around at the back of the peleton or the motivated version??

I dont rate Betancur for much of anything anymore, I see him much like Ruanjo who was also a one race wonder and then just made up the numbers until he faded into obscurity.

Amongst the younger riders (although I have yet to examine a start list) I reckon Rohan Dennis, Romain Bardet and Rafal Majka to name three, will run circles around him.

Wonder whether Quintana and Froomey will be playing along too

I just spent a few minutes flicking through the start lists, although not completely final yet,  Quintana is not on the list as of now.
