Team Exxaro - We do not need to heed to the LAW

This morning I spotted a group from Exxaro. Was kind of jealous for not being able to cycle due to a torn muscle in my foot.

But what happened a few seconds later left me in utter disgust of this team.

Remember that LAW that says you need to stop at a RED traffic light? Well it does not apply to them.

Thia happened at Persequor Technopark in Meiring Naude street at about 06h20.

When I spotted this law breaking I told the guys that they are breaking the law.

Now remember, these are Mountain Bikers, in FULL kit. The one front runner of the red light told me to f uck off.

Well how do you do... On a training ride, in full sponsor gear and you tell a citizen abiding by the law to f uck off?

And they are above one ore law... Cycling behind each other. Oh no not this team. Next to each other taking up a whole lane.

And sorry to,say this, but if you are dragging the name of cycling down the drain, please go and do that where you are in the bush, and not where I need to commute. If one of the Exxaro team gets killed by a car, all blame will fall from our cycling community on the car, but just how innocent are your cycling team.

Again, f uck me for obeying the law....

Ja, ja. They are not the only one's.

On Saturday morning I saw a number of law breakers. One guy skipped a red robot whilst talking on his cell.

I even skipped one myself: I missjudged the change from red to green and left a bit early. I made it across before the light actually changed to green

I know what I did wrong and I accept it had consequences. But cyclits don't only get hit when they don't obey the law.

What if when I decide to skip the red light I am actually more safe? I mean I actually check all directions before I cross. When the traffic light is green, you hardly ever check for any traffic: you trust the system and you cross. Which in itself is against the law as it still states you have to look both ways before you cross.

Anyway, I think this fred is only created to stir. Seriously. If this was a group of hot blonds breaking the law, you would not give a hoot.

Depends when or where I am riding, but early mornings I skip red lights and stop/slow down at green lights. I have found that this is the safest option. It is amazing how many motorists see red as green. So these days I do not judge, i just ride safe. Strange how that may sound with skipping red lights and all.

Easy way to deal with this is rather send a letter to the exxaro marketting department. Even better include a few emails of a few directors.

That should bring the attention in the correct direction.

C'mon dude, you are a cyclist and a motorist and trying to convince us that you have never broken a law ???? So you've never not stopped at a stop street. Never skipped a red robot. That is in car or on bike. Never driven without a seatbelt, never spoken on your phone while driving...................Amazing !!

Because if you have never broken the law, then point figures. And I'm sure you've told people to f.off before.

Good point, I am not perfect, but when I am in my gear advertising Netcare group, I need to know what I am doing, and that means obey the law at all time, because I am representing Netcare.

I need to uphold a image and not go about doing just as I want to.

Instead of trying to was your dirty laundry on social media, rather try and get the contact details of their team manager and take it up with him/her directly. I hope your foot feels better soon so that you can ride your bike instead of taking your frustrations out on a bunch of youngsters that are still learning all about life and its challenges.

No I would go ape **** as well.

This is my commute route they are screwing with.

I need to cycle here after they are gone off to do what ever. I need to face the drivers they piss off and I have to cycle where they damage the image of cycling (that if I might add is already in a very bad state)

And yes I am not the perfect law abiding citizen, but if someone calls me on my mistake I am not going to tell them to **** off.

So Francois, I agree with the image thing, so be constructive, these are development riders, get hold of sponsors and offer to assist with some life skills, or make sure current support structures are doing this. Nowadays plenty of riders in sponsored kit don't think of the image angle. It's just about free kit.

As brand ambassadors riding in kit i would expect better behavior. Its not so much them breaking the law (do it myself sometimes) as how its mentioned they reacted.

Thank s for the healing thoughts. I need to get on the bike. At least I have lost 6kg's so I need to get back on the bicycle.

I sent them a mail (marketing and a few other people on their contact page. But I once had a close call with one of these blokes skipping a red light near the CSIR when I turned on the bicycle and he decided he can do as he wilt. I could not catch up to him, because I was caught at the red light near the SASOL garage which he skipped as well.

That is the one reason I skipped on the gear of one of my clients. He offered, but I declined. I am not in a state to wear his gear. And that is why I am not wearing my Netgear kit as well. I am obese and slow. Same with the kit from USN. I do not fit the image.

That is why I stick to either a old Trek shirt of a Indola shirt with baggies, and why I am still on my 10 year old Scott MTB as well.

I do not fit into the framework. Maybe I should have a BMI of 19, skip red lights and curse cars while I am cycling... (This is sail in a joking manner)
