Dropper post for sprada

So after I was told by my lbs that my frame is too big for my height and therefore a dropper would just not work for me as it wouldn't drop/extend enough, I decided to sell it for peanuts and save another 8k for a another sprada smaller frame. Now when I want to add the dropper Im told no dropper would work due to the angle in the tube.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Any solutions? Can't afford to sell this bike too.

I dont think it's the angle of the seattube, rather the fact that it's an interrupted seattube with a pivot sitting high up..

Do the following and PM me - cant sell you something, can only give advice.

Take a normal seatpost and insert it as deep into the seattube as you can.

Measure the distance you can insert it into the seattube in cm.

Now return your seatpost to your normal riding position and measure the distance from the seatpost clapm to the rails of your saddle.

Post that length here.

I'm pretty sure one of either of the following droppers will work:

http://www.jensonusa.com/KS-Lev-Dx-Seatpost-100mm

That one is only 335mm total length where-as your shortest Reverb is 350mm

Or

Specialized command post 75mm

(There's still one or two of these available in SA for around R3k, but it's a  crappy 3 position dropper)

You get different length droppers. You'll just have to find one that is as short as your current seat post. I'm guessing the seat post is reasonably short because of a) the bend in the seat tube and b) the small frame size. Measure your current seat post and I'm sure someone can advise which dropper to get.

A dropper post is not a remedy for a frame fitting issues.

What lbs told you about the seat tube angle? Please clarify.

I think they meant "due to the bend in the seattube".

The real issue is that the pivot is in the seattube and is situated higher than most other brands of bike.

Spot on @cpelser. It is the pivot thingy the the rear shock is.

Can measure the post because the bike is still at the shop.

So I went to pick up the bike this morning and as I was leaving I lifted the post so i could ride. As I was doing this the nice man asked if this was the height I rode at and said oh then your current post is too short as it's past the minimum insertion. He then checked again and called giant. They've got a 350mm(not sure what that means) but that should work. So it's ordered. Crossing my fingers in the meantime hoping it works.

It'll work..

BUT - You will need a shim. As far as I know Silverback MTBs uses mostly 31.6mm seatposts and the Giant droppers only come in 30.9mm

The 350mm means it's going to be a 100mm dropper which is fine, as long as it works for you.

So you'll need something along the lines of:

http://www.wiggle.com/use-309-internal-shim/

It converts your seat tube from 31.6mm to 30.9mm so that you can use a 30.9mm seatpost in it.

Hopefully the bike shop can get you a shim or make one because I haven't been able to get a 30.9 to 31.6mm shim in SA.

Anyway - if your current setup is such that you have to extend the seatpost past minimum insertion I'm a bit worried that you've now got a too small frame for you..

How tall are you, what is your inseam length and what size frame are you on now?

I'm about 1.65 with a small frame. They said they will make a shim out of a coke can. But just incase this would be a good backup
