Porterville this weekend - what trail options are there?

Lots of riding in the area. Head out north of town and then east over Dasklip pass (big climb ~500m vertical ascent).

You could then head over the back down to Beaverlak and some of the trails down to the Olifants river, or stay up on the mountain and head south into the Groot Winterhoek reserve.

In short lots of riding, but I don't know the best routes.

Beaverlac is probably your best bet, mostly jeep track though, and lots of soft sand on Olifants river trails. You can also try contacting the owners son at Watervalle camp can't remember his name unfortunately, but their camping site is at the entrance to Porterville left at the sand road just before entering town. He is a keen MTB'er and when we were there last about six months ago was busy developing some trails.

Ok - Dasklip looks fun, and we are actually staying at Watervalle, which advertises mtb routes as open - so I'll report back after the weekend!

Stayed at 22Watervalle last year September. The MTB routes were basically non-existent. They have started building, but it seems to be an on/off affair, so the few pieces of trail they directed us to, were virtually impossible to find as they're not being used regularly and aren't marked.

Not trying to be negative, they're nice people, but the trails mentioned on the website simply don't exist as yet. As such, I really don't think they should be advertising it on their website.

I somehow doubt much would have changed by now, but I'd happily be proven wrong. Please let us know what the current state is.

Helpful to know thanks - I'll update next week

So the trails advertised at the camping spot don't exist.... and the local farm roads are quite corrugated and not that pleasant to ride... so the best option I found was the Dasklip pass which was a worthy (tarred) climb

Thank you for reporting on the trails in the area. I'm going camping at 22 waterfalls in two weeks time and wanted to take my bike and now I know not to bother.

Anyone know of possible road routes that I can ride in that area? Second best option next to mountain biking :P
