My heart rate is always high during a ride. Why?

How many older fellas 45 + take a disprin a day or when they feel like something might be blocking the pipes?

After a run in with DVT (minor but still) after a flight to Germany some years ago my doctor advised 1 Disprin Cardiocare a day and I have been taking it since then ..... I don't think it 'unblocks pipes' so much as makes the blood less sticky but I could be totally wrong of course.

Guys, not to be alarmist, but here is an interesting take on the aspirin and heart attack link;

Don’t have a heart attack, but Aspirin is not the answer http://wellbeinggps.com/articles/don%E2%80%99t-have-a-heart-attack-but-aspirin-is-not-the-answer/

An extract; To date, the studies statistically show that taking aspirin does indeed lower the incidence of non-fatal cardiac events… but it does not reduce the mortality rate from cardiac events.  How do we explain these confounding results?

For starters… can I just emphasize again that in the large, long-term trials after myocardial infarction there is no evidence that aspirin saves lives!  And bothersome as this is, aspirin actually increased the risk of sudden death in the same studies.

Hi Ben you have lost a lot of weight , was there any change in your HR at all?

Going for a quick ride when I get back I'll do a comparison with a TT I did when I was somewhat heavier

Mmmmm lets see

2014 Jun - John Boscoe 21k TT - 95kg - av 163 max 169

2015 Aug - John Boscoe 21k TT - 83.5kg - av 168 max 176

2016 Mar - provincial 20k TT - 73kg - av 166 max 174

It would appear it has not really made that much difference

What about your resting heart rate? Do you have any info on that?

Would be interesting.

No sorry I don't have that ... too much trouble to try to take it properly when you first wake up

Would've been good to know if that changes.

I read somewhere that one's max HR does not really change, but resting should come down when fitness goes up and weight comes down.

Your average is the effort you put in, given your fitness level at the time. Your averages might be similar, but I bet you were going faster when lighter.

i have a very low resting HR. i went to the cardio on Friday( i have a defibrillator in my chest) and when they did the down load my resting HR touches the 40 mark, and i am not that fit at the moment......what i have noticed was when i did the Herald MTB race in 2013 my HR was much lower on avg than this year. I did about 100km more training this year and my time was 3:34 compared to 3:19 for 2013. I am about 2-4kg heavier and wondered if that had any effect?

Ja, could be the extra weight, you're slightly older, conditions (wind, etc) on race day, how you felt, how you fuelled/hydrated. A lot of variables to pin down.

40 - wow that's low. I think I mentioned earlier, a lot has to do with genetics.
