AryM Posted March 23, 2016 Share http://www.cansalostcity.co.za/The Bestmed Cansa Lost City Classic is delighted to announce that the 2016 road race returns to the original route for this year’s 19th edition of the popular event. To facilitate the change, which will now offer distances of 103km and 70km, the road race moves away from its traditional Saturday slot and will take place on Sunday, 21 August. The MTB Classic now fills the Saturday slot (20 August) over the weekend cycling festival. The reason for the event discontinuing the popular old route three years ago was the increase in traffic volumes - in particular heavy mine trucks – on the R551 from Thabazimbi, which the race came across from 23km to 45km.Never did the Classic old route, just the new 116km for the last 3 years. Thoughts? Will give race a go, always enjoyed the 116km route, Fast & Flat.http://s30.postimg.org/6naeig1i9/103.png103km Route Profilehttp://s28.postimg.org/9red4yyl9/image.png70km Route Profile Edited March 24, 2016 by AryM
Frosty Posted March 23, 2016 Share I've never done the current route, only the old one so I can't offer much of a comparison. Another fast and flat race either way. At least with this route, most of the 100km groups will be finished before the 70km groups join the route at the 4-way stop. It was nice having the race on Saturday to make for a free "rest of the weekend". AryM
Frosty Posted March 23, 2016 Share The profile comes from Google Earth, which shows those spikes. Here is the Strava profile from the last time I raced it (2009). AryM
Long Wheel Base Posted March 23, 2016 Share I last did it a few years ago so don't know which route I did but I remember horrible speed bumps in the middle of the race and train lines across intersections. Unless that's gone I won't even consider going back.

Having said that, it's six years since I was last on those roads and much could have changed. AryM and Long Wheel Base

(2014, 2015) Old Classic route don't have those bumps from what I hear from guys who raced previously. CharlesZ Posted March 23, 2016 Share I'm for one that will have a huge smile as I had a a not so nice fall at the speeds bumps after the stadium. That section from the stadium to the main road leading back is not nice. Was also where the sand patches was especially the one just after the 1st turn of the staduim
