Hey everyone,

 

I'm doing my first Pioneer end of this year. If anyone has any training tips or a schedule they used in a past Pioneer (that worked), please share. Any insider help is always appreciated.

I normally do 12 weeks base and 8 weeks polarised HIIT followed by 1 week's taper for the Pioneer. Works for me.

 

An ex-hubber told me to never hammer the prologue in stage races - found this to be good advice.

Depends on where your fitness currently is.

 

If you do plenty miles during the year (10 000 to 15 000), you already have a good base, and can perhaps only focus on more longer back to back days for that extra endurance. 

 

Strength work is key, and pack your climbing legs, although this year the super long climbs (Swartberg) was excluded.
