New baby in the house ....

Commuting is a big plus in this if one can pull it off.  You can get a lot of training in without it really messing with your family time.

Although my kids are now older, having moved away from the family support in SA, I can't spend hours and hours on weekend rides.  Starting to commute to work has filled the gap.  Now I commute on avg three times a week to work and only put in a long weekend ride every second weekend.  I am getting more training time now than what I had in SA and I am spending more time with the family.

IDT's help a lot. During the week I train after work, most of the time when I get home the kids (x3) want attention from me so it's a bummer when you have to tell them NO I'm going for a ride now. But with the idt they can still play and chat with you. When they were young (<1yr) I didn't ride much, just didn't have the energy. As they get older it gets a bit easier
