According to the seller it was serviced before i bought it.... any ideas to what can cause this ?

The dust wipes still look fine and haven't perished.

that is quite a bit of oil....could just be from too much oil in the recent service.

If it really was just serviced, then it's probably just too much float fluid used for the new seals.  Give them a wipe down and go for another ride.

If it carries on doing that, then they'll need to be opened up.

Then it's either as Rouxtjie states or the "service" included only an oil change (if you're lucky) and not new seals.

I'd go looking for new seals soonest.

ah yes.. float fluid.

Those seals are at least 6 months old, sorry to say. My guess is that the service that was done was a lowers oil change, not a full rebuild.

Re Float fluid on forks....maybe it is common practice to lube the seals with Float fluid on reassembly but the fork manual for that fork says to just use the same fork oil you use in the lowers. And I can vouch for the new Fox 20wt Gold oil - much reduced stiction on my Fox34 compared to the green stuff it came with.

The oil seal has a double lip so if too much oil/lube is used on the seals it can squeeze out of that space on the first ride or two then settle down. If it keeps doing that after another shortish ride then do a new service with new seals, foam rings and fresh oil. If that much oil is coming out then the same amount of dirt is going back in and doing evil inside.

You're correct re the 20wt Gold oil being used for everything now, but the amount of oil coming out of those seals is excessive.

Those seals are also the old ones with a flange, which have been off the market for at least 6 months now, hence my comment earlier. There is almost no chance they were changed recently.

I hate the new seals.  I miss the flange  :(

The tool and a decent bike stand make life easy, but quite an investment for a weekend warrior. Especially since that cheap and cheerful stand would probably disintegrate with the first tap...
