Sani2C on Tandem

OK. Did the Trail on a Tandem - we were two Tandems in the ride.

Day 1 no issues. Managed all the bridges, including the Floating Bridge.

Day 2. It rained the night before, so the slopes were a bit wet .... and slippery. Managed most of the switchbacks - had to get off around a few of them though. Had some really scary moments slipping sortof out of control. Brakes worked very hard and down that one long straight stretch halfway down, I could smell the burn of the other tandems brakes, and we both overshoot the turnoff at the bottom - simply had no brakes! Getting out of the valley was hard work - very hard work. In the end, the day took 8 hours!

Day 3. Again no issues. Had a fall when I lost some concentration and ended up in a rutt. Nothing broken though. The floating bridge over the lagoon was fine except for the little "surprise" humps. The crest is too high for tandems and we scraped over on two of them. Luckily we took it at some speed, otherwise it may have caused loss of control.

In the end, we did it! In summary, doable but required a lot of focus and concentration; scary at points, and very tough. I am a seasoned MTBer, but a few times I felt Out-of-my-comfort-zone - not a nice experience. Will I do it again on a tandem? Right now the answer is a definite No, but may feel different next year.

Cool feedback

I guess the answer on "Can you do the Sani2C on a tandem" is easy to answer.

But "Is it fun to do it on a tandem?" maybe not that easy to answer....

How about a ride report from the tandem - saw a white tandem on telly. Seemed to be a hard tail with suspended seat.

I would like to do it on my own tandem if I can find a stoker - my missus doesn't do hard work.....
