Hello everyone..

I am new to the MTB scene and need some advise please.

Been riding now for 2 months on a 3k 27.5 Religh MTB at Meerendal, Hoogerskraal and ContermansKloof and loving it. The bike is not cutting it, to small, poor quality components, very poor shock, ..etc etc, Thus the need to upgrade my MTB bike.

I like and prefer the trail riding and would like to get more into the technical and a bit of ramps etc style of riding, but know i have to ride up the hill before i can ride down. Been gathering advise and it seems the 27.5 Dual suspension is the way to go.

it seems the right bike would be a Giant trance 27.5, but mentally struggling to get my head around spending 25k for a MTB bike. I don't mind 2nd hand, but 27.5 large frame (i'm 1,79)  dual suspension is very very hard to find.

Would i be able to get away with a dual suspension 29er for my choice of riding or what other options would everyone advise. or am i forced to buy the 27.5 Giant trance 2.

I'd prefer to spend 10k or 15k, but if the 15k bike won't cut it then al have to spend the 25k.

nothing stops you from buying a 29er  , But if trails is more what you are after rather than speed and racing the 27.5 would just suit you soooooooo much beter

Man I hate to break it to you but yes, you may struggle to find a more trail orientated bike in that price range.

Yes you can go 29'r but most you will find second hand are more XC oriented...to stay clear.

Although there is a Pyga OneTen...which is a nice balance...but outside price range by a bit...although it seems a great deal.

I ride out that side quite a lot as well, so drop me a PM sometime and we can catch up n go for a ride.

Also, from what I hear you can get a decent Giant Trance new for around 25 if I'm not mistaken. Go check out Giant in Durbanville seeing as you appear to be around that side. The componentry may not be the greatest but man it'll be vastly superior in every way to what you may be riding now.

However if it were my moola I'd contact the guys with the Pyga and eat 2min noodles for the next 2 months :P

Then there is THIS...

Yes really ... until rather recently it appears most 29'rs still don't have progressive geometry making them more suited to trail riding applications.

Get a trance ja, and both medium and large can work at 1.79, depending, of course.

And don't get hung up on wheelsize, trance came in a 29er flavour. Meezo making gat cos he rides one.

Dude. Rather Google how to measure yourself up for bike fit. Then lok k at the geometry info on the manufacturer's website. Then go to you friendly LBS and speak with them about sizing. A trance is a tit bike. Just beware of buying the wrong size. I'm 1.73m and roll on mediums.... 17" current bike is a medium, I think a large is like 19".

When it comes to sizing different bike manufacturer's and models are different, i.e. I have a M/L Fuji which measures up to my XL Silverback, I had a XL Commencal which was slightly too small for me.
