On Monday, 11 April 2016, Conservation received a call from
Security after they reportedly saw a leopard in the nature reserve.
The Conservation department investigated and found prints that
could possibly that of a Cape leopard. The incident was reported to
the City of Cape Town biodiversity management, who arranged for
camera traps to be installed in various locations within the nature
reserve. We urge that people leave the cameras alone should they
spot these cameras. The Cape Leopard Trust will be contacted to
study and monitor the leopard if we do find photographic evidence
of a leopard within the nature reserve.

Are the Cape leopards dangerous?
Due to their small size and elusive nature, the Cape leopards are
not considered to be a danger to people. There are no reports of
attacks on people. However, if one were to corner a Cape leopard,
or threaten a female's cubs, they could be very dangerous.
How many Cape leopard are there left?
A good guesstimate would be that there are less than 1 000 Cape
leopards in total.
