The pain cave is the best indoor studio I have seen in the last 5 years:

Dion Guy is the owner and also gives proper tests including Lactic Threshold Testing.

I'f you're looking for the best... Check them out.

Thanks, Will give them a shout and pop in for a coffee..

Let the pain...i mean training...begin..

Ok... So my 1st FTP is booked for tomorrow evening.... my legs are not as optimistic about this...Haha

As a pole in the sand  - what is a weak / half decent / decent FTP / w/kg result to expect on your 1st FTP?

I am not racing snake - not even close - but can (nooo....FEEL i can ) do at least some decent riding. I have been cycling for a year and mostly weekend and 2 night rides a week..

I just want an idea of what result to expect and what to aim for in % gains going forward...

This question is not really answerable Neverfit. We don't even know that you can give it horns for the full 20 minutes! In any event, if you generate an average of 225 watts over the 20 minutes and your weight is 80kg you will be 2.8w/kg which will not be bad at all. All just conjecture though!

Good luck with your session, and please post your feedback afterwards!

Like I said - Noob....

I will post results if I make it out alive... AND if the instructor does not tell me to rather sell my bike and start playing darts.

Whatever that number may be do not let it scare you at first, just because someone else has a number higher than you doesn't necessarily mean they'll beat you there's more to cycling than that at least IMHO!

Ok, So my 1st ever FTP done and dusted.

Did the 20min FTP, doing another FTP test next week (2 x 8min) as a comparison.

Didn't do great but atleast i survived.

More importantly, I know have a bench mark to work from.

Decided to do core training once a week and give the cycleops a spin twice a week.

FTP: 215W

Weight: 85kg - Working on getting this down to <80

W/kg: 2.4w/kg

Now for the fun part....working on improving with every ride...

Smelling the wet grass, bird chirping, tree dodging...life is GOOD!

Well done. First step finished.

Now, do yourself the biggest favour and just get out and enjoy your bike!! Don't make your cycling become like a crap job that you have to get up and go to...
