CycleOps or Wahoo kicker

Your Kickr must be ANT+ to work with TTS4 and your PC will need an ANT+ dongle.

The latest is 4.19.1 which works well with all sorts of fancy and unneeded variations to power.

But herein lies my favourite bugbear with Tacx, If you have not updated TTS4 you could end up downloading and installing 3 or 5 updates to keep it sequential, rather than just the latest. For this reason I don't use updater, I download from http://patches.tacxdata.com/

and keep then for the inevitable load on a new PC or reload from original.

As far as I know TTS4 is NOT included in the NEO package, it is an extra. As only Tacx customers will buy the NEO this is not really an issue but is when you come from outside the brand. A tip here is to buy in EUR on the Tacx site and download rather than buy the DVD locally. Price difference is huge.

I used google earth when free but did not use it enough to buy the licence. I have about 20 videos but mainly use catalyst now Workouts, as I train purely on power. TTS4 now has great relative power workouts based on FTP. When FTP changes your workout changes.

Thanks Carbon, that is my exact problem. I am on 4.13.0, and need to update multiple times to get to 4.19.1. I would like to use your tip to download once from the patches site. My problem is that I have lost the CD, and do not know how to find my license number. Can you help?

Ps. All Kikrs are ANT+ and bluetooth. At the moment TTS4 is reading the power broadcast by the trainer, but its not adjusting the resistance.

Pps. I never have any of these issues on Virtual Training. It just works. Tacx is awesome once you get it to work. But it takes work! I am pursuing it as I have some nice routes on TTS 4, which i don't seem to be able to upload to Virtual Training.

You can get your licence number from the software:

Then go to extra bottom right and export. Creates LicenseInfo.txt which has your licence number.

If you are on the same PC you don't need the licence but if you are moving PC you will need to deactivate and reactivate.

You don't need licence number to download and update once installed.

If your copy is not yet registered on this PC but was registered you need to mail support@tacx,nl with your registered email address to get the licence number from them.

Check that the tacx usb stick is found in system devices.

Finally got feedback from Tacx

The ANT stick for the T1980 (Tacx ANT T1991 usb) is not compatible with TTS4.

My options are to buy (!!!) TTS3 or a compatible USB stick.

Advised to contact local distributor, they were unsure but I could order a stick at R2990 (and see if it works!)

Tacx support not playing nice when it comes to older hardware.

I don't know if any other sticks work with the T1980, anybody have it working?

That's nuts. Have you perhaps tried alternative Ant+ dongles?

This was really nice reading!

It is very interesting for me to see how biased people become when they speak about things that they do not know about!

The Tacx is the best! (Because he owns one)

The Kickr is the best! (Because he owns one)

The CycleOps is the best (Because he owns one)

everyone believes that the one he owns is the best and all the others are crap. Why is it crap? Because you can't afford it?

I had a nice laugh at some of the comments... lol

I own a Kickr and cannot really fault it. It is a bit expensive but really very nice technology.

I cannot comment on the other brands because I do not have any experience with them.

I had a Tacx which I sold after two to three months because to me it was not user friendly and that made me not enjoy it.

The Kickr is very user friendly and compatible with most apps.

I believe that it is a personal choice at the end of the day and buy what you can afford. Do your homework properly and determine exactly what you need from the trainer and pick the best one for YOU!

It is like comparing a Toyota with a Ford Bakkie!!

Kickr being the Ford (Best option) and Tacx being Toyota!

(JOKEY JOKE!!! JUST KIDDING!!)

I don't own any IDT.

I think CycleOps is the best. Oh wait, Wahoo is the best. No wait, Tacx is the best.

As long as you enjoy your training and you can see the improvements it doesn't really matter.

PS. The Wahoo Kickr is the best.  ;)

I have the T2028 from Tacx working perfectly with my Fortius and TTS4. Should not cost more than R1,200. https://www.tacx.com/products/accessory/ant-antenna

TTS3 did not have the ability to add cadence or heart rate via ANT+.

The dongle for an iPad is T2090, also about a Grand. But the same part number is used for Android so who knows.

If there is interest I can order do a bulk order.

I hear you but facts are facts. Currently the kickr is probably the best allround package from a technology / future proof / support point of view. The fact that it transmits both BLE and ANT, direct drive as well as having a reputation for being to integrate into any software easily and good support behind the scenes makes it the winner. Not a cheap piece of kit, but the rolls royce currently.

And no I dont have one...
