What are the most technical events in the Western Cape?

Hi All.

 

Been out of racing for a lot of years.

Never really enjoyed dirt road type mountain biking and was wondering:

 

What are the most technical (fun) events in the Western Cape?

 

I'm thinking along the lines of the Piket bo berg event?

WPDH Enduro class (essentially the DH race but on a bike with single crown forks)

Enduro series (multiple stages with only the downs timed)

XCO

Excluded that 'cos I'm pretty sure the OP doesn't have a DH bike.

Piketboberg and Eselfontein would be at the top of my list too.

On a side note, it's a pity both of them have inaugural stage races on the same weekend this year.... and the fact that I won't be able to make it to either

If you're looking for the more technical marathon style races, I would also recommend the STBB MTB race in October on the Bottelray Hills trails. A lot of singletrack on that route

OK it is my turf - but If you want to have one of the real rides in the mountains come and try the Funky Fynbos funride.  Those that have done it will tell you that it is one of the toughest rides out there.  Not only in terms of climbs - but the terrain as well.  Fast and narrow descents as well as some fun single track.  Not manicured - but built to retain true mountain flavour.  A real test to your ability to ride a bike in the mountains .
